In the world of music and cinema, the role of a producer is extremely crucial. The recently released music album Qayamat has been garnering encouraging feedback from viewers, featuring actress Tania Chatterjee in a prominent role. On this occasion, Mayapuri Magazine spoke exclusively with producer Manohar Ramchandani, who opened up about his journey as a producer, his Marathi film Kesari, working alongside his son Santosh Ramchandani, and his future plans.

As a producer, what was your biggest responsibility in the album ‘Qayamat’? How was your shooting experience?

As a producer, my responsibilities are similar to those of any other producer, but the biggest challenge is maintaining proper coordination among all the artists. The shooting of Qayamat was completed in just two days, and everything went very smoothly. By God’s grace, the response the song has received so far has been quite good.

You have also produced the Marathi film ‘Kesari’. What inspired you to make that film?

In the Marathi film Kesari, I was the co-producer, while my son Santosh Ramchandani was the main producer. Our family runs a production house—Bhavana Productions and Bhavana Films LLP. After the COVID period, the atmosphere of the industry changed, and that’s when we stepped into the Hindi music industry for the first time.

How do you view the role of a producer in today’s music industry?

In today’s time, the producer’s role is extremely important. If a producer does not invest, artists will not get support, and quality content won’t reach the audience. Just like a gardener nurtures a plant, a producer guides a project in the right direction.

What factors do you focus on before giving a green signal to a music project?

The first priority is casting. We carefully check the background of the entire team—what the artist has done before, or if they are new, what skills they possess. Their look, screen presence, and performance are all evaluated. It’s a long process. After 15–16 hours of shooting, the final output on screen is only about 4–5 minutes.

Do you plan to bring more strong, youth-centric music projects in the future?

Yes, absolutely. We are currently working on two more Hindi songs, one of which will be shot in Goa. After that, we are also planning a web series, and if everything goes well, we aim to produce a Hindi film in 2027.

Your son Santosh Ramchandani is also associated with you in the industry. On set, are you a father or a producer?

On set, we are not father and son—we are both producers. During work, professionalism comes before relationships.

Would you like to give any advice to your son about carrying forward the legacy?

My son has completed a diploma from Whistling Woods International under the guidance of Subhash Ghai. This industry is his passion, and many times he guides me as well. I have complete faith in him.

When you hear the name Mayapuri Magazine, what memories come to your mind first?

Since our college days, we have been hearing about Mayapuri Magazine. At that time, there was no digital media, and Mayapuri was the main source of celebrity interviews and film news. Every artist wanted their interview to be published in Mayapuri. Even today, Lotpot Magazine and Motu Patlu remain extremely popular among children.
