Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Chitrangada Singh starrer thriller film Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders has unveiled its trailer. During the media interaction, the star cast, including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Chitrangada Singh, Deepti Naval, and Sanjay Kapoor, shared several interesting insights about the story, characters, direction, and casting. Let’s take a look at who said what…

Honey Trehan said

When asked whether the film is based on a specific real incident, director Honey Trehan replied: “No, it’s not inspired by any single event. Our film is inspired by society. The people who exist around us—whether today or in the past—their lives, struggles, circumstances, and behaviour shape a story. Many small experiences and incidents come together to form a big, impactful narrative.”

Supporting the director, Nawazuddin Siddiqui added: “So many things keep happening around us. Writers pick up these small real incidents and weave them into a story. The foundation of this film, too, lies in the realities of our society.”

Playing Inspector Jatil Yadav in Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, Nawazuddin was asked: “Your expressions in the trailer show fear, suspense, and stillness. How did you prepare for that?”

Nawaz responded: “This character is very different from the ones I’ve played before. Honey explained everything—the tone, the pace, the dialogue delivery, even the body language. Everything had to be internalised. Nothing loud, nothing overly expressive… just a silent strength. That was challenging, and therefore exciting.”

He added:“Playing Jatil again was a thrilling experience. I’m grateful to Honey sir and Netflix for bringing the story to another intense level. I hope audiences give this case as much love as they gave Jatil earlier.”

Speaking about the evolution of his character, Nawaz said: “Jatil has changed with time, but his dedication, intelligence and commitment to reaching the truth is unchanged. No matter the pressure, danger or power standing in his way—Jatil never compromises in his investigation.”

When asked about the impact of OTT, Nawaz replied: “An actor must always look ahead. If we stay stuck in our past roles or successes, the future possibilities vanish. What’s gone is gone—moving forward is the only way.”

Chitrangada Singh said

Portraying Meera in the film, Chitrangada Singh shared:“My character appears calm and composed from the outside, but inside she lives with fear and deep anxiety. Meera is one of the most layered and challenging roles I’ve played—she is fragile and strong at the same time. She lives in shadows—emotionally, morally, psychologically. She has many unspoken truths. I am grateful to Honey and Netflix for offering me a character this complex.”
When asked whether the film addresses social issues like female foeticide, Chitrangada replied: “I don’t know the writer’s exact inspiration, but society is full of such incidents. The film isn’t based on any single event. It carries a social commentary connecting many aspects of society.”
Speaking about her upcoming film Battle of Galwan with Salman Khan, she said: “I’m very excited. It’s a completely different kind of film. A lot is at stake—for me, for the team. Even for Salman, this is his first film of this kind. Everyone is excited. Let’s see what happens next.”

Sanjay Kapoor said

Actor Sanjay Kapoor shared his experience: “None of the actors felt the need to watch the monitor during the shoot. The director had complete clarity—he knew exactly when the shot was perfect. Filmmaking is truly a director’s medium. Actors bring talent, but the director sees the entire film and every tiny detail.”

Deepti Naval shared

Veteran actress Deepti Naval said she loved her look in the film: “The styling and presentation of my character deeply impressed me. The dialogues are so powerful that they leave a strong impact on the mind. I feel fortunate and extremely happy to be a part of this project.”

When will it release?
