Television industry star Rashami Desai, who has recently appeared in R Madhavan's film Hisaab Barabar, plays the role of Monalisa Yadav, a babysitter. Rashami, who has earned recognition through her work in the television industry, recently gave an interview to the media, talking about her role in the film, the language challenges, her bucket list, and upcoming projects. Let’s see what Rashami Desai had to share.
Your journey so far has been incredible. You bring something new every year, and your 2025 has started off well. You’ve received appreciation for Hisaab Barabar and a Gujarati film as well. What would you like to say about this?
I feel great. I work hard for it, and I’m genuinely happy that I’m able to entertain the audience, and they are liking my work. When you love what you do, it surely reflects in your work and resonates with the audience. I believe this is far more rewarding than any award.
You’ve done Hisaab Barabar and a Gujarati film. What differences did you find between the two languages? What challenges did you face, and what did you find interesting?
Both languages were quite challenging. In Hisaab Barabar, the character I played, Monalisa Yadav, is from Bihar. On the other hand, I speak Gujarati (Bhatla) in real life, which is quite different from standard Gujarati. In the film, I had to speak pure Gujarati, which required a lot of effort. Playing any character requires a specific attraction and a mood board that helps you understand that you have to endure the character's struggles to deliver a good performance. I’d also like to mention that my coach helped me a lot in this process.
While shooting for Hisaab Barabar, I was quite nervous because I was working with a legendary actor. I wasn’t sure if I’d get another chance if I messed up. But both directors Ashwni Dhir and Madhavan sir were very supportive, and they guided me through my mistakes. On the other hand, my homework for the Gujarati role was more difficult because the story revolves around a mother, which made it even more challenging for me.
You’ve worked in TV, web series, and films. What’s left on your bucket list?
There’s still a lot to do. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. I have a lot more work to accomplish, and I’m looking forward to it.
We’ve been watching you for a long time, and you’ve done a lot of work. So, what does success mean to you?
I think success is a temporary feeling that you experience after every project, especially when your project is completed successfully. But I also believe that after that, you have to learn to move forward, and that’s what I am doing. I just want to keep doing good work.
You did an excellent job in Hisaab Barabar. There was a lot of positive feedback about your UP accent. What did you learn from it?
Hisaab Barabar has a very different style. It presents a heavy topic in a very light way, and there’s comedy involved as well. I’m someone who expresses a lot, even while talking casually, I tend to use my hands a lot, but in Hisaab Barabar, I couldn’t do any of that. So, it was a bit challenging for me. But thanks to Ashwini sir and Madhavan sir, I received a lot of support on set.
What’s in the pipeline?
I am currently working on a shoot, but I always say that I’ll talk about it when the right time comes.
What would you like to say to your audience?
I’m very grateful because, over the years, all the work I’ve done has brought me happiness and love from my audience. I’ve come here with a different experience, and there’s still so much more to do in the future.
