The crime investigative drama Kohrra earned a special place in viewers’ hearts from its very first season. Now, with its second season, Kohrra 2, the story returns with greater depth, emotional layers, and new characters. The world of Kohrra portrays a beautiful yet complex land caught between modernity and tradition. How was this energy woven into the story?
Sudip Sharma: It emerged entirely from the needs of the story. At the end of the first season, the case had been solved, so for the second season, it was essential to introduce new characters, a new case, and new circumstances. Some older characters had completed their personal journeys, but Garundi’s (Varun Sobti) character had room to grow. In the first season, he was more like a boy; this season, we wanted to portray him as a mature man.

What was it like joining an already loved universe with a new character?
Mona Singh: I have been a huge fan of Kohrra, so becoming part of it felt like a celebration. My character is extremely complex—a woman dealing with personal grief, family issues, and a challenging professional environment. That challenge drew me toward the role.
Garundi appears calmer and more mature this season. What led to this change?
Varun Sobti: It’s a coming-of-age journey. He has moved forward in life—he’s married now, and his responsibilities have increased. His anger still exists, but he is far more balanced and thoughtful than before. The change has been written very carefully. Garundi seems more controlled this time, though that doesn’t mean he has lost his sharpness. He is more mature and responds to situations more thoughtfully. The character is crafted very delicately, so it was important to maintain that subtlety in the performance.

How did you retain the soul of the show while introducing new characters?
Sudip Sharma: We wanted freshness in the show, but its tone and emotional depth—what audiences had connected with—remained the same. So while new faces were introduced, the atmosphere, sensitivity, and core essence of the story were preserved.
How did it feel to be part of this show?
Rannvijay Singha: For me, the decision was made even before reading the character, because I wanted to work with this team. The workshops were extremely emotional. We weren’t just trying to understand the characters, but the human beings behind them. Every day on set felt fulfilling—we knew we were creating something honest and meaningful.

Why was special importance given to a female police officer’s character this season?
Sudip Sharma: We wanted to show the police system from a woman’s perspective as well—someone working in a male-dominated environment, dealing with personal struggles, and constantly proving herself. This aspect wasn’t explored in the first season, and the second season gave us that opportunity.
Why is Punjab being called the most important character in the show?
Mona Singh: Punjab is not just a location—it’s a living character. Its land, its cold weather, the fog, the language, the people, the sound of gurdwaras, the silence of history—everything breathes within the story. Without Punjab, there would be no Kohrra.

Why is the police shown as human rather than heroic in Kohrra?
Sudip Sharma: Because the police are human beings. They go through systemic flaws, moral dilemmas, and personal struggles. The show does not portray them as ideal heroes but highlights their weaknesses, sensitivity, and human side.
