Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma Open Up About Their Comedy Film ‘Rahu Ketu’

Bringing together a fun blend of comedy, fantasy and family entertainment, the film ‘Rahu Ketu’ hit theatres on January 16. The film has been receiving a positive response from audiences, with the hit pairing of Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma once again winning hearts with their brilliant comic timing and on-screen chemistry. In a recent interview, the duo opened up about the film and shared some memorable experiences. Here are the key highlights from their conversation:

Even after a 20-year-long journey in the industry, your energy and positivity surprise people. What’s the secret?

Pulkit: I’m actually surprised to hear that it’s been 20 years in the industry for me. To reach this point, hard work and passion are extremely important. Today, there are so many talented newcomers who constantly prepare themselves and learn something new every day. That’s why it’s important to keep improving yourself. Reinventing yourself is crucial, otherwise you get lost in the crowd. Passion plays a very important role because there are times when you don’t feel motivated, and it’s your passion that takes you to the set. There was a phase in my career when I didn’t have much work, and that’s when I truly understood how passion keeps you motivated. No work is big or small—you just have to keep working.

It’s often said that laughter is the cheapest and easiest therapy. How much do you agree with this, and what does it mean to you?

Varun: That’s absolutely true. Life today is full of stress, and people are always looking for reasons to laugh. Since childhood, we’ve been taught to share happiness and make others laugh, but over time, we forget that. If there’s one thing that can instantly lighten our day and make us happy, it’s laughter. That’s exactly why films like Rahu Ketu become so important.

After Fukrey, audiences have high expectations from your pairing. Do these expectations ever turn into pressure?

Varun: There is pressure, but it’s a happy kind of pressure. People trust that if Varun and Pulkit are coming together, it’s going to be fun. Our effort is always to live up to that trust and go beyond expectations. Watching this film will make you feel lighter and bring a smile to your face—I can confidently say that because we’ve seen it ourselves. Just like audiences enjoyed Fukrey, Rahu Ketu will give them the same level of enjoyment, but in a completely different world with different characters.

Why do comedy pairings work so well with audiences, and how do you see your pairing being called iconic?

Pulkit: Because no one else like Charlie Chaplin has been born till date, and that’s why not everyone can do comedy alone. Comedy becomes more effective through “give and take.” Doing comedy solo is very difficult—Charlie Chaplin was an exception. In pairings, there’s chemistry, which entertains audiences even more.

People often call your natural performance in comedy a “God gift.” How do you see that?

Varun: Honestly, I don’t know how I do it myself. Once I reach the set, everything just happens naturally. I completely surrender to the director’s vision. My only aim is to honestly bring what the director has imagined onto the screen. I believe that whatever work you do, you should enjoy it. My goal is always to deliver exactly what the director expects from me.
