Soon, Adah Sharma will be seen as "Atrangi Rita Sanyal" on Disney+ Hotstar. In this show, she portrays various characters that elevate her acting skills to new heights. In a special conversation with Mayapuri, Adah shared insights about the challenging role of Rita Sanyal, her preparation for the characters, her experiences with the star cast, and her favorite character, along with the backdrop of the show.
Everyone is unique in their own way. The trailer looks very entertaining. Do you have a personal favorite character?
Adah: There are so many that I can’t choose just one. However, I think the character of Machchi Wali Bai is resonating well with people. She speaks a mix of Hindi and Marathi. After my YouTube channel’s clips, like "Ek Hoti Idli" and "Atak-Matak," people started requesting me to speak Marathi.
OTT has become such a huge platform. In this scenario, it’s challenging to present something different. What makes this crime thriller engaging for the audience?
Adah: This show is like a masala film, blending entertainment and humor. It features several larger-than-life villains, while Rita Sanyal appears as a superheroine. The show doesn’t take itself too seriously; it presents a light-hearted take on the genre.
What was your reaction when you learned you would be playing different characters in the show?
Adah: I immediately said yes. I was clear that I wanted to do this. I usually know what I want and what I don’t. It’s a dream role for anyone. I’ve seen many characters in shows like "Sita Aur Geeta" and "Chalbaaz," and I thoroughly enjoyed playing so many diverse roles.
How was your preparation for these characters?
Adah: I take my preparation very seriously. I practiced speaking Haryanvi and Marathi. I even hired a tutor for Haryanvi. Each character has its own language and culture, which I made sure to internalize well. I didn’t want it to show on screen that I was struggling. For the food inspector role, I wore a padded suit to appear heavier. I also adopted the style of a fellow actor’s Haryanvi speech.
Which character was the most challenging for you?
Adah: All the characters were challenging in their own ways. Rita Sanyal is a young woman, and for her different roles, we didn’t use much beyond lens and hair makeup. My face will remain the same, but I’ll change my manner of speaking and expressions.
Among these characters, which one was your favorite?
Adah: I had the most fun with the sari look, and I also enjoyed the Haryanvi reporter look. It’s hard to choose just one.
There are many talented actors in this project. How was your experience working with everyone?
Adah: I was blessed with a fantastic cast. I enjoyed working with everyone, especially Rahul Dev in the court scenes. There’s also Ankur and Manik in the show, and I think people will love our chemistry. It was a lot of fun, and I had an amazing cast to work with.
How many episodes are in this show, and what is the release plan?
Adah: There are 20 episodes, and a new episode will be released each day. This way, audiences can look forward to each episode. It will air Monday to Friday over the course of a month.
What would you like to say to the audience?
Adah: Yes, if you’re looking for something quirky, you must watch "Atrangi Rita Sanyal." It’s a fun show filled with a lot of madness and uniqueness. Step into Rita’s world and enjoy this delightful experience.
The series is scheduled to premiere on October 14 on Disney+ Hotstar, and the trailer has already garnered a positive response from viewers.
