Romit Raj Opens Up About His Role in 'YRKKH', Co-Stars, and More

In a candid conversation with Mayapuri Magazine, TV heartthrob Romit Raj, who is currently playing Rohit Poddar in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, shared his excitement about being part of one of TV's longest-running and most loved shows. From discussing his character’s upcoming twists to bonding with co-stars and working with DKP Productions after years, here's everything Romit had to say:

• ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ is one of the oldest shows on TV. Despite many leaps, it continues to captivate audiences. What’s your take on this?

For me, this feels like a dream come true. It’s one of the biggest and most beloved shows on TV. The show’s TRPs have always been excellent, and it's consistently been at the top. When we shoot, I never feel like I’m on an old show. The set has a fresh, vibrant energy—just like the first 10 episodes of a new show.

• Before the leap, your character Rohit was set to marry Ruhi. After the leap, what changes can we expect? How does the storyline shift in the 5-month leap?

Before the leap, as you all saw, there were many misunderstandings between Rohit and Ruhi, which eventually turned into love, marriage, and even a baby. But now, after the 6-month leap, things take a dramatic turn. Ruhi is in a coma, and Rohit is going to lie to her, telling her that their baby has passed away. The truth, however, is that the baby has been given to Abhira Bhabhi and Armaan Bhaiya. The audience will get to see how Rohit and Ruhi navigate through this new reality and the tension that builds up from there.

• How are you personally enjoying this new track?

I’m absolutely loving it! Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is one of my favorite shows, so being a part of it feels special. I’m grateful to Rajan sir for giving me this opportunity. Playing Armaan’s younger brother is such a great experience, and the storyline has so much to offer. It’s also special for me because I’m working with DKP Productions after 18 years. I had previously worked with them on Betiyan, so it feels like coming full circle. The channel and my co-stars are all familiar faces, making this experience even more amazing. I’m really excited and I want to live up to their expectations with my work.

• We often see behind-the-scenes moments where you and your co-stars have a lot of fun. How’s the bonding on set?

The bond on set is fantastic! I’ve become really good friends with Garvita, and she’s an amazing co-star. With Rohit, my scenes have been really great, and we’re building a wonderful camaraderie. I really like working with Sam; we’ve shared some great moments. Anita Ma’am is another person I enjoy talking to. She’s so much fun and has a wealth of experience. We often discuss fitness and share some wonderful conversations. The entire team, including Sikandar Bhai, Shruti, Rishabh, and Siddharth Bhai, is great. Since we’re all around the same age, it’s easy for us to connect and enjoy each other’s company.

• What would you like to say to your fans who have supported you throughout your journey?

I want to take this opportunity to thank all my fans for the love they’ve shown me in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. You’ve all accepted me as Rohit Poddar, and I’m grateful for that. I’m really happy to hear the positive feedback on my romantic and comedy scenes. I promise to keep working hard to bring you the best, and I hope our bond continues to grow stronger.
