Sailee is a girl who wants to see herself independent – Neha Harsora

These days, TV actress Neha Harsora is seen in Star Plus’ show Udne Ki Aasha, where she plays the role of a 'Maharashtrian Mulgi'. Her character is named Sailee. In this show, she shares screen space with Kanwar Dhillon. She opened up about her role, favorite experiences, and the fun moments on set in an exclusive interview with MayaPuri Magazine. Let’s find out what she had to say.

With so many shows coming up these days, how do you feel about the love and attention your show is getting? How would you express your feelings?
I’m extremely happy with the response the show is receiving. We’ve tried to present each character in a very realistic way. Whether it’s the flower seller, the salon worker, the auto driver, or Riya, a girl from a rich family, all these characters come from different walks of life. People can connect with them, and that’s why they are connecting with us. The struggles portrayed in the show resonate with everyone, and they find something relatable from their own lives.
Sometimes, auto drivers even ask me, “Are you Sailee?” It feels wonderful to know that people are watching the show and are inspired to make changes in their own lives.

Sailee is now known in every household. What would you like to say about the character?

Sailee is a girl who wants to see herself independent, but she often lacks self-confidence. Her journey, both before and after marriage, is filled with struggles. She fights with an alcoholic husband and tries to manage her family, but despite all this, she is met with hatred. Still, she remains content with her simplicity and the little joys of life. She accepts her husband as he is, and together they try to make their lives better. Through Sailee’s character, we are trying to show that if you work hard and find happiness in the little things, success will follow.

Shooting on set is a lot of fun too. When we see the BTS (Behind the Scenes), it’s full of enjoyment. What do you all do for fun during the shoot?

Our show has a comic element to it as well, so it’s not just a serious or emotional drama. Whenever we have a fun scene, we all enjoy ourselves a lot. The entire cast, direction team, and creative team are very friendly and approachable. We all openly communicate with each other and try to help each other improve, so that we can present the best possible version of what we want to deliver. I think this is one of the reasons why we’re slowly making a place in the hearts of our audience.

There must be several special sequences in the show. Is there a particular scene that’s close to your heart, especially regarding Sachin and Sailee’s chemistry? This chemistry is something the audience really enjoys.

For me, the most memorable experience was shooting Sailee’s birthday scene. It was shot at Churchgate, where we were capturing candid shots. I was wearing a saree that day, and I never imagined that I would be sipping tea at Marine Drive at 7 AM, all dressed up in a saree. It was such a beautiful moment, and I will always cherish it. It was an extraordinary experience.

What would you like to say to your fans?

I never thought I’d receive so much love from people. When I get so many messages, comments, and edits on Instagram, it feels amazing. They know me only as a character, but still, their love motivates me. I want to ensure that Sailee’s character continues to improve, so I can live up to their expectations. I want to sincerely thank my fans for showering us with so much love.
