(Varun Badola interview in hindi) Recently, Varun Badola gave an interview to the media, in which he talked about many topics including questions related to the show (Sony SAB Show Itti Si Khushi), the character of a father and the journey of on-screen fatherhood. Let's know what he said in this interview...
You played the role of a single dad in 'Mere Dad Ki Dulhan', an irresponsible father in 'Saiyaara' and now once again you are seen in the role of a father. You have shown so many different shades of a father on screen, but what is the story of your 'dad' avatar in real life?
I am a very irresponsible father. How responsible can a man be who goes out of the house to act every other day? I did not have a serious relationship with my father at all. We used to sit together and drink whiskey and smoke cigarettes. If respect is visible in your gestures and other things, then smoking or not smoking cigarettes does not make any difference. I have a similar relationship with my son. I have never raised my hand on my son, there was no need either. But it is important to have fear of someone in the family. If there is that fear, then why raise your voice unnecessarily. A balance is necessary and I do that very well.
In what ways is your character Suhas Divekar special and how will it impact the audience?
Suhas is someone who always shirks responsibilities, but he is not completely heartless. It is a very delicate balance. He is not a typical villain, but his failures have deeply affected his children. The character is layered—one moment he disappoints you, the next he touches your heart. My character in the show is neither completely bad nor completely good. His flaws and human aspects will connect with the audience.
You have shown many shades of a father on screen—sometimes responsible, sometimes careless, and sometimes emotional! So it would be interesting to know where do you get the inspiration to play a father's role? And what kind of preparation do you do for these roles?
We first prepare a basic structure that this character will speak in this way, he is an alcoholic so his behaviour will be like this. When he wakes up in the morning he will be very irritable, so he will react like this. According to me, you will definitely get better at a character by practising, but as soon as you prepare that psychological and physical structure, then your troubles reduce. Then you understand that I have to keep this character within this boundary. Creating the outline of a character is the most important thing for me. Even if I keep playing the role of a father from today till the end of my life, I will not repeat any one. The father of 'Jamnapaar' was different from the father of 'Kohra', which was different from the father of 'Mere Dad Ki Dulhan', which will be different from the father of my new show.
How do you see this character in your career so far?
The character of Suhas is one of the most challenging roles out of all the shows I have done so far. It is a beautifully written role and I really want to do complete justice to it.
When you get a break from shooting or work, how do you like to spend your free time? Is there a fixed routine for that time or do you plan according to your mood?
I mostly listen to music while going out or for a stroll. I believe in enjoying life. One should not get entangled in his motorcycle while going out of the house. Whatever fun or whatever one wants to do, one should do it in one's own way and at one's own time.
Let us tell you that 'Itti si Khushi' is going to start on Sony Sab from 18th August ( Itti Si Khushi Release Date) .
