In this candid conversation, Vihaan opened up about his on-set experiences, the responsibility of carrying forward a legacy, and evolving content trends. Here are the key highlights from the interview…

Being the son of seasoned producers Sanjay Kohli and Binaiferr Kohli, how have you understood the entertainment industry?
For me, this is not just an industry—it is a responsibility and a legacy. I studied abroad and worked in different countries, where I gained exposure to distribution, production finance, and agency systems. Along with that, I worked at the grassroots level as an assistant director on set, so that I could understand the industry not just by name, but through hard work. This made me realize that surviving in this industry requires not just talent, but discipline and respect.

How was your overall experience of shooting Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain – Fun on the Run?
I witnessed everything with my own eyes and through the camera, and honestly, the experience was unbelievable. On the first day of the shoot, there was light rain which we somehow managed. However, on the second day, the rain was so heavy that we had to cancel the shoot. At that moment, the biggest challenges were budget, timelines, and commitments—not just to the production house, but to ourselves and the entire team.
Despite this, the spirit of the entire unit was commendable. Everyone collectively decided that after a short break, we would cover all the cancelled scenes. From spot boys to camera, sound, and costume departments, every team member worked together as one unit.
During this time, a tree fell during a break, and Ravi Kishan sustained an injury. He stayed in his vanity van for a while, but soon returned and said, “Let’s continue shooting.” When you have a unit of 200 people and an actor shows such dedication, it reflects true professionalism and commitment. This experience made the entire team even stronger.

How challenging has it been to create your own creative identity while carrying forward an established production house’s legacy?
This is a very important question that always stays on my mind—will I be able to take my creativity forward? But honestly, I received immense support from my seniors. The biggest challenge was finding the right balance between experience and fresh ideas. Through discussions, debates, and new concepts with the team, the journey became smoother. My goal has always been to add something new while respecting the legacy.

What is the most important professional lesson you have learned from your parents—Sanjay sir and Binaiferr ma’am?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from my parents is to respect everyone. Every person on set is important—whether it’s a spot boy or the director. If you create an environment of respect and understanding, that same team will stand by you during the toughest times. I’ve learned this by watching my parents work, and this principle continues to guide me in every project.

How was your experience as co-producer and content head for the Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain film?
This experience was extremely special and full of learning. Converting a franchise that audiences have been watching on television for 11 years into a film was a huge responsibility. In this project, I closely observed not just the creative aspects, but also production, planning, timelines, and team management. The challenges we faced during shooting—whether weather-related or location-based—taught me that no film can be completed without teamwork.

As a new-generation content leader, what is more important—trying something new or maintaining established trust?
Our banner carries a certain expectation from the audience—a familiar taste that must be preserved. At the same time, experimenting with new platforms and genres is equally important to keep content fresh and engaging. For me, the real challenge lies in maintaining that trust while introducing innovation in the right way.

According to you, what defines good content—something that follows trends or something that stays memorable for years?
In my opinion, good content is something that stays with you for a long time. Trends come and go, but classic content lives on. If a story finds a place in the audience’s heart, that is its biggest victory.

What kind of content do you personally enjoy watching the most?
I really enjoy comedy, because it is the most challenging genre. Apart from that, I am also drawn to war and army-based films, as I feel a personal connection with that world.

Keeping in mind the changing preferences of today’s young audience, in which direction do you want to take content?
I believe that creating content solely based on data is not the right approach. If you genuinely feel a story from the heart and it entertains you, it will reach the audience as well. Content is not a formula—it’s an emotion, and I want to move forward with that emotion guiding me.
