Ileana D'Cruz & Sendhil Ramamurthy in 'Do Aur Do Pyaar'

You are debuting as a director in Bollywood with ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’. The first project is special for everyone, what is your feeling?
This is my first film and it is very special for me. And there are many big stars in it, so it becomes my responsibility to make something good because they have trusted me. I am happy because everyone liked the film and people have also said good things about the film. Everyone should like all four characters and we wanted everyone should like these four characters. Some people have also mentioned in their reviews that they liked all four characters and I am very happy about this.

Have you worked on many projects before as an assistant director?
It's not like that. I have worked as an assistant director to Ram Gopal Varma and only as his assistant director. I have worked with him in some three to four films. And after that, I directed ad films. I have been directing only ad films for the last fifteen years.

As a director, it is a big thing to bring a story to the screen. How have you decided on this journey?
This is teamwork. Making a film is teamwork. It is not that only one person's idea goes onscreen. Many people's thoughts and ideas are also involved in this and they trust your idea and support you. Producers are your biggest supporters, and if they are not there then your film ends there. If the producer does not agree with your idea then your film cannot go ahead. Once they believe in your idea, then they convince the actors to believe in your idea. Once the actors agree, then you need a crew, technicians, and other people for your film. It takes a lot of people to make a film, no single person can make a film. The most important thing to keep in mind while making a film is to create a team of people who can work well together because making a film is teamwork.
Tell us something about the experience of working with Vidya Balan and Prateek Gandhi.
I am very happy that I got such good actors for my first film. They are not only a good actor but also a very good human being. I have worked on many sets so I know the environment there very well. Everyone on the set of this film was very nice and I did not have to face any such environment.

Do Aur Do Pyaar' Box Office Day 3: Pratik Gandhi-Vidya Balan Film Earns Rs 2.65 Crore

You shot with Vidya Balan for so many days. Would you like to tell us anything special about her?
She is a very good actor and she always does things that help others. She doesn't just think about herself but she thinks about the entire crew. I had never met her before this film but still, she made sure that I was comfortable with her. These small things are what make her a real star.

What would you like to say about Prateek Gandhi?
He is just like a child. He is like a free soul. Pratik is very sweet and has different edgy ideas about one thing. He was very excited and happy on the set.

What other kinds of films are you going to bring to the audience?
I love the space of human relationships personally. I wonder how the human mind works. I find this thought process very exciting and I would like to explore it in cinema. I like this kind of thing very much. I also like comedy films. But I don't like slapstick comedy, I like situational comedy more. I am looking at some things right now but it is not that I will do them right now. I don't want to do anything in a hurry.

Are there any actors from the film industry with whom you want to work?
No. It's not like that. It's all story-driven. There are many people of whom I am a fan but for me, the story comes first. Making a film is not just about working with a star but also about working with the characters of the story. I hope that I continue to work like this in the future.

What kind of challenges did you face during the journey of this film?
Making a film is a very difficult task. You must have a story that both you and your writer should like. After that the producer should like it and then the actors. After everything is finalized, then you have to find a studio, the studio should like your story and after that, you start shooting the film. After shooting, edit the film, add music to it and only then is the film ready. There are many challenges in making a film. Making any film is not easy. And if you are making a film for the first time then there are some more difficulties. But this is a big lesson of my life. I enjoyed working on this film very much.

According to you, what is the special thing about this film?
This is my first feature film, that's the special thing. An ad film director can tell about his work if he wants to or not. But when you make a feature film you can't keep quiet. You create it and put it out there for the world to see. Everyone has their own opinion so it can be a little scary because you are putting yourself and your work up to be judged. This is all new to me.

Would you like to say something about what kind of compliments are coming regarding the film?
Many people have spoken very well. As a filmmaker, it feels good to read something good written about my film. When character sketches of the characters of your film are written in an article, the character sketches with the help of which we create the characters, then it feels good to read that someone has seen our film and appreciated it.

What would you like to tell your fans?
I don't have any fans. I just hope that people watch this film for what it was made for. The only hope is that people go to the theater and watch the film and they like the film.
