Yashashri Masurkar show Dabangi
Masurkar started her acting career with the Marathi series 'Lakshman Resha'. She got popular from the character of Khanak in the serial 'Rang Badalti Odhni'. Even today people know her by the name of Khanak. Yashashri has also been a part of many other shows, including 'Sanskar - Dharohar Apno Ki', 'Chakravarti Ashok Samrat' and 'Krishnadasi'. Apart from this, she participated in Bigg Boss Marathi 4. Apart from TV serials, Yashashri has also done films like 'Laal Ishq' and 'Kabad: The Coin'. Nowadays, Yashashri is seen in the role of Bela in the show '‘Dabangi’' on the Sony channel. Let us know from her, what is the upcoming twist in the show and her character...
Your show ‘Dabangi’ is getting a lot of love from the audience, so how was your journey with this show?
It was very good. I feel good that I am working with children. Earlier I was afraid that there would be so many children on the set that they would cause trouble, but all these children are very intelligent and professional. Working with them has brought out my childhood because I am always surrounded by children on the set. They bother me a little bit too. Jai, who is playing the role of my daughter, always follows me around, she is like a darling to me. Mahi Bhadra who is playing the role of ‘Dabangi’ is very amazing, I have never seen such a good actor at such a young age. During many emotional scenes, when I have to bring a few tears, I don't need anything like that because she speaks with so much love that the scene naturally becomes very good. Together with them, I became a child myself.
Who are the people you enjoy working with on the set?
It is fun working with everyone. Whenever I have a scene with Manav and Aamir, we laugh together, we have a lot of fun. Then there is Himani who plays the character of Kasturi, she has those proper Delhi tantrums, and the food from her place is very good. This is a new show, so we're all just getting to know each other, and it's a lot of fun working with everyone.
You are playing the role of a mother in this serial, which is not easy. What kind of experience did you have playing this character?
It's a little difficult when you don't like children very much. But I have seen my mother and also seen mothers around and after seeing them, I have incorporated some things in my character. To play this character, I am especially watching a show called 'Gillmor Girls'. This is a very old show, and it is on Netflix. This show is about the relationship between a mother and daughter, which I feel is similar to Bela and Jai in my serial '‘Dabangi’'. I watch that show for inspiration for my character.
According to the promo that has come now, the girl's birthday is about to come and in the meantime, some problem arises, so what twist is going to come in the show?
I will not tell you the twist, for that you will have to watch the show. Because of Arya, a big twist is going to come in the life of Bela and Ankush.
You have done many shows to date, out of all the characters you have played so far, which character is closest to your heart?
There are many, first of all, Khanak which gave me so much popularity and gave me a footing in the Hindi industry. I also loved playing the character of Mriganaini. Recently, I did a show for the Atrangi channel in which I played the character of a lesbian girl and I enjoyed doing it a lot.
If you go out somewhere, by which character's name do people know you?
I am called by the name of Khanak only, it has very rarely happened that people have called me by the name of any other character. I like it when people call me Khanak because it's been a long time since the show, but it feels good to see people still remember me.
When people call you Khanak, how much do you miss playing that character?
A lot because it was my first show. It was a very romantic show. I miss playing a romantic character. I must have been eighteen or nineteen years old when I did 'Rang Badalti Odhni'. At that time, you don't have as much understanding of relationships as I do today, so I feel that if I get to play a romantic character today, maybe I will be able to play it in a better way.
You have done Bigg Boss Marathi, and now season 17 of Bigg Boss is going on, so are you following it?
I am not following but I follow as much as I see on reels. This is my conscious choice because last year I did Bigg Boss Marathi and after coming out of it, I have not watched even a single episode of it. I will call it Big Boss detox because Big Boss leaves an impact on you. So when I come out of that, maybe I will start following Bigg Boss again.
What do you want to say about the love triangle going on between Isha, Abhishek, and Samarth in Bigg Boss?
If I speak honestly, whatever people do in the Bigg Boss house, there are very few things that are real. Whatever they are doing there, they are doing it all for the camera. I think Ankita-Vicky's fight also happens only for the cameras, that too to become popular and make a place for themselves in Bigg Boss. I also feel that this love story is just for the camera.
You were also a voice artist, would you like to share some of your experiences?
I was not only a voice artist but I had also been an RJ. I started my Marathi show on 98.3, and that was the first Marathi show in Mumbai on a Hindi channel. I always enjoy doing something new. I did this show when the industry was closed due to the lockdown. It was a very different experience, I got to learn something, and my previous experience as an actor helped me a lot in becoming an RJ.
CID actor Dinesh Phadnis, who became famous with the character of Fredericks in CID, has passed away, would you like to say something about him?
He was a very good actor, whenever he came on screen we used to laugh, his comic timing was very good. I would like to pay tribute to him, may his soul rest in peace. Along with that, I would like to say one more thing today we are missing him because he left this world today. From the time CID ended till today, had anyone asked about him, had anyone remembered him? This is a very bitter truth of our media and industry that if a show ends then it disappears from the industry until a new show comes or some incident happens with that person, and this is very sad. I hope that he was able to do whatever he wanted to do in life and wherever he is today, he remains happy.
Right now the era of OTT is also going on, so if you get a chance, would you like to do it?
Yes of course. I want to work in OTT because there are so many good shows on such good subjects that I feel that I also want to do this, I also want to have this experience. As an actor, I want to do OTT shows and also do films.
Is there any character in an OTT show that you feel that I should have got?
I also auditioned for this character, the show was Imtiaz Ali's 'She'. I had to do the role that Aditi Podkar is currently playing in it.
Do you have any upcoming films, before this Laal Ishq came?
After Laal Ishq, I have a Marathi film coming which I have shot in the UK.
Is there any film character that you would like to play?
Sorry Madhuri, Madhuri is like my God, so it is important to apologize first. I would like to play the character of Chandramukhi from the film 'Devdas'.
What would you like to say to the fans?
You have always loved me, even when I was not working, you sent gifts on my birthday, you remembered my birthday, and this is a big thing for me. I have very few fans but those who are there are loyal, we all know each other by name. If I never post, these people DM me and ask about my well-being. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart that you have given me so much love, I also love you so much.
Many fans notice small things and send gifts for you, have you ever met such a fan?
I have met a fan who is now my friend, her name is Aishwarya. I remember when my serial 'Odhni' was coming, Aishwarya had created a website in my name, and this is a big thing for me. I remember after that I also attended his wedding. Today we are very good friends.
