The name Rannvijay Singha instantly sparks thoughts of energy, the hit reality show Roadies, and the spirit of perseverance among youth. Coming from an army background, Rannvijay began his career with MTV Roadies and soon became a youth icon. He has carved a long path in reality TV, acting, and hosting. Now, he returns to connect with audiences through his new show ‘Chhoriyan Chali Gaon’, where he plays the role of a host and mentor. Through this show, he aims to reconnect viewers with the soil of Indian villages, their struggles, and the concept of self-sustainability. In a recent interaction, he spoke about his career journey, family influences, memories of rural life, and how his outlook on content has evolved.

After Two Decades of Roadies, What Pulled You Back?

I found the concept of this show extremely interesting. In fact, the original format became quite popular in Marathi. Here, urban girls used to modern comforts are placed in a simple, raw village setup—not to compete with each other, but to adapt and survive.
In cities, a cab is just a call away, but in villages, even fetching water means walking to the well. Today, when connecting with nature is more of a textbook idea, this show brings that connection to life. Watching these girls adapt to village life and guiding them through it was an exciting experience. On a personal note, I’ve always felt a deep bond with rural life. For me, Chhoriyan Chali Gaon became a medium for self-exploration and understanding sustainable living.

From Contestant to Host – What Has That Journey Been Like?

When you’re a contestant, the responsibility is only on yourself. But as a host or judge, the entire show is your responsibility. I was a contestant on Roadies just once—after that, my role shifted entirely. I’ve been offered many shows as a contestant, but I declined them. I feel that being a contestant again would dilute my presence as a host. I prefer shows that contribute to my personal growth. For example, I once hosted a jungle safari show where I got to explore 8 forests. That experience taught me a lot—and now, I also have children to raise.

With Five Generations in the Army, Why Did You Choose Glamour Over Uniform?

I had cleared the written exam for the army and was preparing for SSB in Bhopal. My father, grandfather, uncle, and maternal grandfather all served in the army. I had proved I was worthy of the army. But then, I was given the freedom to choose my own path. I’ve always loved bikes, basketball, and adventure sports—things I thought I’d pursue in the army. But the temptation of winning a bike pulled me into Roadies. That show became a turning point. The family sat down and decided I’d give the entertainment industry a year. If nothing worked out, the army was always an option. But after winning Roadies, there was no looking back.

You’ve Never Shied Away From Speaking Up. Has That Ever Cost You?

I care deeply about my family, my parents, and my children. What others think doesn’t bother me much. I say what I believe is right. I stand by it. Of course, truth and falsehood are subjective—what’s true for one may be wrong for another. But I believe I have the right to express my thoughts, and I always will.

How Do You Balance Work Commitments and Family Life?

Family is a top priority for me. I know true happiness comes from them. My job is my profession—whether I were working in a mine or in front of the camera, I’d still value family and adventure equally. I want to raise my kids right, and spend quality time with them. They don’t know much about my profession. All they know is, “Dad rides bikes and comes on TV.” Whether you’re a hero or a criminal, your kids see you simply as a parent. Children love unconditionally, beyond status or titles. That’s why—for me, family comes first.

As a Father Now, Has Your Approach to Shows Changed?

Every person evolves in their career. What matters early on might not be a priority later. The kind of shows that were important to me in the beginning—today, I prefer projects that my entire family and kids can watch together. I want my kids to understand the value of real life and the worth of material things. That’s exactly why I took up a show like Chhoriyan Chali Gaon.

Do Your Village Memories Still Shape Your Life and Decisions?

My father was in the army, and he had a rule—whenever we had school holidays, we were sent straight to our village. I have countless memories—like collecting eggs from the poultry farm, cutting sugarcane in the fields, riding on tractors, or going to the grain mill with my grandmother. There were no ACs in the village, so everyone slept outside during summer nights. Now, when I think back, I realize we’ve all become slaves to urban comforts—those same rural experiences that now go viral on Instagram Reels have always been a part of our hearts and childhoods.
