He made his acting debut with Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi's Beyond The Clouds. But his lover boy act in Bollywood film Dhadak made girls go weak in the knees and made him a class and mass hero.
For his phenomenal Hindi film debut, the talented actor was awarded with the Best Male Debut Award at India International Film Festival in Mumbai on September 18.
The youth icon was elated with the win and especially after receiving the award from his brother Shahid Kapoor. He thanked everyone and said, “I am short of words. I didn’t expect this. Thank you IIFA for giving me this award and more so for giving me this moment. As far as I know, 15 years ago my brother, who is 15 years elder to me won his first IIFA award. And here I am receiving mine from his hands. This is truly special. I have a lot of people to thank but I have to start with him (Shahid Kapoor). I have always looked up to him and he has always been my idol. I don’t think I will ever be able to repay what he has given me but I hope I can make him smile like this always. I have a host of people to thank. Majid Majidi sir, a great man who I was fortunate enough to work in my first film. Karan Johar sir, who is the biggest of filmmakers and the cleverest of minds I am ever so indebted to you for giving me this chance. Shashank Khaitan, I have learnt so much from and who is like a big brother to me. The cast and crew of both my films. I thank all my seniors. This moment means a lot to me.”
