It was dark dead morning..
I had first heard about her when she had done her first Telugu film “Bobbini Raja” which had turned out to be a big hit- Ali Peter John
She had then come to Bombay and signed any number of small and big films, mostly big films and was seen as the big start for the future.

She was from a middle class family which lived in a building called Archana Kutir in Juhu

Within a year she had surpassed all the younger female stars and was also the highest paid.

It was her greatest triumph when she had bagged the leading role opposite Anil Kapoor in “Laadla”, a role which was originally to be played by Sridevi and her joy knew no bounce.
She was shooting two shifts in April 2005 and it was very DIFFICULT to meet her. However, my friend Kulbhushan Gupta who was a journalist once who had taken to producing Hindi films, took me with him as he was going to meet Divya at Hermes Villa in Versova.

She was in love with life

We talked for 20 minutes and I could know how much she was in love with life and all the good things that were waiting for her.
Kulbhushan and me left and after having a few drinks left for our own homes without even imagining what we would get to hear early next morning.
At 5 in the morning Kulbhushan called in a voice I had never heard before. He said, “Ali, Divya ki death ho gayi” and I first rushed to the Tulshi building in Seven Bungalows where Divya lived with her newly married husband, the young and well known producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

She had fallen from the 5th floor and was rushed to the Cooper hospital where she was declared dead before she could be admitted

When I reached the building, there was a large crowd outside. She had fallen(?) from the 5th floor and was badly injured and was rushed to the Cooper hospital where she was declared dead before she could be admitted.
There were many suspicions and theories about the cause of her death. She was supposed to have gone on a drinking spree after completing her work for the day and had gone for a drive with her husband and some close friends.
She had continued drinking even after reaching home and was said to be sitting on the parapet of the terrace of “Tulsi” and the next thing was her body lying in a pool of blood after which her husband and his friends took her to hospital, but the short but successful story of Divya Bharati had come to a sudden and sad end.

when her body was brought out, it was reconstructed for her to look as pretty as she was in life

There was a curious crowd outside the post mortem department of the hospital. And when her body was brought out, it was reconstructed for her to look as pretty as she was in life.
From the hospital, her body was taken to the Vile Parle Hindu crematorium and her body which was the talk of the industry went up in flames and within no time.
The young woman who many believed was the light of the future was reduced to ashes and she had become a memory and would be remembered by some and forgotten by most within no time.

Someone had asked the people at the crematorium to have a cement and concrete bench erected at the site for the mourners to rest on

The request was heard and there was a bench with Divya Bharati’s name on it. But soon the bench was there, but Divya’s name had vanished.
That is the final truth about life and death. But who among the living has the time to realize this truth which the greatest and the smallest, the highest and the lowest, the saint and the sinner has to face one day, some day .
