Sanjiv Kumar was producing is first big Hindi film , " Do Waqt Ki Roti" under his younger brother Nakul Zariwala's name . It was being directed by his friend Satpal and had himself , Feroz Khan , Reena Roy , Sulakshana Pandit and Amjad Khan in leading roles - Ali Peter John

A major part of the shooting was being held at the Banglore Palace in Bangalore. All the stars were present , when a white Ambassador car with a bald man dressed in white sitting inside .

The large crowd had one look at the bald man and went crazy . They all went running after the car and left the stars from Mumbai to themselves . That godman was Dr Raj Kumar the greatest legend of Kannada cinema.

And Amjad Khan who went to pay his respect to the actor came and told Sanjiv Kumar , "hum kaaheke star aur superstar , assal superstars toh ye log hai",

I was at the Annapurna studios in Hyderabad with Rajesh Khanna, Rekha and Shabana Azmi . Once again, a white Ambassador with a bald man sitting in it drove in and people started screaming , crying and falling at his feet .

I made a comment saying, " ye kaun aagaya bhai ? " and some men who heard me said, "are from Bombay ? If anyone would have heard what you said they would have cut you to pieces ".

That man was Dr Akkineni Nageshwar Roa the legendary actor the owner of Annapurna Studios and the father of Nagarjuna and the grandfather of Naga Chaitanya .

I met him during his shoot on the same day in his own studio. He was playing a king and there was such a big difference between the man I had first seen and the actor I had seen playing his role as a king .

I had similar experiences with great actors and superstars and legends from the South like Sivaji Ganesan , Gemini Ganesan , Dr N T Rama Rao and from the younger generation Krishna ( without whom Jeetendra would never be a star , he himself admits) , Krishnamraju and above all the simple bus conductor who turned into the living legend Rajnikanth .

And I had seen a neglected actress from Bombay called Khushboo grow into a star in whose honour a temple was built in Chennai and who is now one of the leading politician of Tamil Nadu. And I have seen Sridevi crying when hundreds of people in the remote corners of Tamil Nadu flung themselves under her moving car to show their affection and love for her .

I don't think we have or will have such simple stars in the South who were and still are great stars all over the world.
