Sarhad, a Pune based organisation, which is actively working in social, cultural and educational fields for the past 28 years, has taken an initiative to organize a 3-days‘Jammu & Kashmir International Film Festival’, in Pune, from 4th Feb. to 6th Feb. 2019, in association with ‘Film & Television Institute of India’ (FTII), Pune and ‘National Film Archives of India’ (NFAI), Pune. This is going to be a regular yearly feature in Pune. The man behind the organization of Sarhad is Sanjay Nahar – the man driven by the desire to do something constructive for the country. Sanjay Nahar took to social work very early in life. Even when he was still in college and only 15 years old, he felt compelled to think seriously about the issues of social and national importance.
The Director of this Festival is Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan,who is a Cultural and Film activist from Kashmir. Mushtaaque is also founder & director of ‘Kashmir World Film Festival’ – a first of its kind and magnitude in Srinagar Kashmir. Mushtaaque has been awarded, honored & felicitated from time to time by State Cultural Academy, other prestigious organizations and associations for his contribution in the field of Film Making. He is also the Chairman of ‘ACT’ (Actors’ Creative Theatre), an organization, active in the field of Art, Culture, Film & Literature, since 1976.
The City of Pune being hub of educational, intellectual, cultural and film studies in the country, is like a second home for the people of J&K. Pune is a multi-cultural city of cosmopolitan outlook, where people from all nooks and corners of the globe come to acquire knowledge and skill. There is a strong emotional bond between the people of J&K and Maharashtra as whole, especially the city of Pune.This festival will comprise of films pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir only. The festival is aimed at showcasing the culture, lifestyle, development and other stories from all regions of J&K, through the medium of film. The festival is also aimed at providing a platform to all the film makers from J&K, especially the young and amateur.
