Ravi Kapoor who was named Jeetendra by yhe veteran filmmaker Dr V Shantaram first struck it big with "Farz', a film made in the South and he struck again in the South with entirely different films like ,'Swarg Aur Narak" and 'Lok Parlok" which were costume and fantasy dramas and he established a one - man industry in the south , especially in places like Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Rajahmundry and other cities in Andhra Pradesh and Chennai - Ali Peter John
Hundreds of filmmakers from the south wanted to make remakes of their films with Jeetendra as the hero, they called Jeetendra Jeetubaaru (Jeetu brother ) and couldn't think of making film without him. He was one - man industry and every little thing about a film was decided by him .
It was this power that made him help countless actresses, director's, costars, writers, music directors and technicians among others.
He had to almost give up the Bombay industry and had built his own house in Hyderabad where he shot seven days a week and three sixty five days a year and his wife Shobha and children Ekta and Tushar travelled to Hyderabad every Saturday to spend the weekend with him.
Jeetendra was so busy that he didn't even have the time to listen to the scripts and just did films that came to him and which had done well in their original versions .
It was while he was going through this unbelievable phase in hi career that two producers from Hyderabad approached him with large sums of money to do a triple role in a Hindi film, the original version of which was done in Telugu....
Jeetu who was a very down to earth man when it came to his own evaluation and recognition of his talent laughed at the offer made to him and told the well-known director S Rammnathan who was to direct the film, " sir, I do one role with a great deal of difficulty.
I can do double role if I desperately need to work for the money, but I can swear on God that I can never do a good triple role.
I am neither Dilip Kumar nor Mahmood, sorry. But I can give you a suggestion. There is a tall actor with a difficult name like Amitabh Bachchan who lives under a tree in Juhu.
I am sure he can play this triple role. I can talk to him if you want. But for god's sake, leave me out of this massive headache.
I will not be able to do it in several lives ". When Jeetendra finally got rid of the triple role, he heaved a massive sigh of relief and signed two more films in Hyderabad .
The producers and director S Rammnathan approached Amitabh Bachchan, talked to him about triple the triple role and Amitabh agreed.
The film had three Amitabhs and three heroines in Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini and Parveen Babi, but it turned out to be one of the biggest flops in Amitabhs career.....
Jeetendra however faced a tough time in the south when film after film starring him flopped and he had no other way but to return to his roots in Bombay, but when he returned, he was shocked to see how the industry had changed so drastically and he the one time big star had no place in the system of things.
His last few films also flopped and he was lucky to have a wife like Shobha and daughter like Ekta who had built an empire of entertainment called Balaji in Bombay.
Jeetendra who had worked very hard all his life now had to live a comfortable life as the Governor of Balaji, take some important decision and sign some fat cheques as the head honcho of Balaji .
Life had taken a very miraculous turn for the boy from Ramchandra Chawl in Girgaum where he used to see films at the Central Cinema and go to the same St Sebastian High School where his boyhood friend Jatin ( Rajesh) Khanna also studied before they both went to college and took off for unprecedented heights which very few stars in India have touched
