McAvoy talks about how Chastain recommended his name to director Andy Muschietti for IT Chapter Two

Warner Bros. Pictures is all set to have audiences reunite with the scariest clown in town - Pennywise with "IT CHAPTER TWO" releasing on September 6 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Director Andy Muschietti will be seen reuniting the Losers Club—young and adult—in a return 27 years later to where it all began  with this outing. The film is Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed and massive worldwide box office hit “IT,” which grossed over $700 million globally. Both redefining and transcending the genre, “IT” has become a part of the cultural zeitgeist as well as the highest-grossing horror film of all time.

Based on the thrilling masterpiece by the king of the horror genre in the literary world Stephen King, the film boasts of stellar cast with Bill Skarsgard returning as the menacing Pennywise, Academy Award Nominee Jessica Chastain playing the character of Beverly Marsh and James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough all grown up.

Lesser know fact however is that James McAvoy came highly recommended to director Andy Muschietti by Jessica Chastain. Jessica first worked with Andy Muschietti and his wife Barbara (producer) in 2012, starring in their horror film “Mama.” Since then, the three have remained good friends. The two were shooting their second project together when the actress dropped a bomb into their conversation. McAvoy remembers, “We were having a nice chat, and ‘IT’ came up in the discussion. Jess said something like, ‘Oh, Andy Muschietti’s my friend. We did a film together.’ She had my attention. Then she added, ‘He wants me to be Beverly Marsh in the next one…um, would you be interested in playing Bill?’ I don’t think a second passed before I said, ‘I will do that in a New York minute.’ I got a call a few months later from Andy, and we FaceTimed. He made the case why he thought I’d be right for Bill, and he was really gracious and complimentary. Of course, I found out that he and Barbara are bloody lovely, two of the nicest I’ve ever worked for.”
