Actor-comedian Jim Carrey is finally making his return to television after a long 20-year long hiatus from the small screen! Yes, it's finally happening!
Showtime announced on Thursday that Mr. Carrey would headline a new series called “Kidding” The actor will play “an icon of children’s television” named Jeff (a.k.a. Mr. Pickles), “who also anchors a multimillion dollar branding empire”.
“No one inhabits a character like Jim Carrey, and this role–which is like watching Humpty Dumpty after the fall–is going to leave television audiences wondering how they went so long without him,” Showtime president David Nevins said in a statement. Kidding reunites Carrey with director Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). Dave Holstein (Weeds, Raising Hope) has written the pilot and will serve as show-runner of the 10-episode series. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
The award-winning actor who has starred in feature films such as The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, Bruce Almighty, The Mask and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind recently attended film festivals in Venice and Toronto, where he presented his documentary, Jim and Andy- The Great Beyond and earned positive feedback.
The half-hour comedy series will be Carrey’s first television job since In Living Color which aired 20 years back.
