JUDWAA 2: LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH AND LEAVE LOGIC AT HOME FOR THIS ONE

With Bollywood delivering back-to-back high intensity films like Haseena Parkar, Bhoomi, Daddy, and Lucknow Central, Judwaa 2 comes as a respite for the masala-flick lovers. Perfect for the long weekend, here's finally a movie that will give your brain a break and bring joy to your heart.

Varun Dhawan is back in his much-adored cheeky avatar in this remake of Salman Khan's 1997 comic caper Judwaa, and it is the complete family entertainer that is ideal for this Dussehra break.

The story? If you've not seen the original, this might not make so much sense for you, but we'll still give you a brief. Judwaa 2 is the story of conjoined twins Raja and Prem (Varun), who are surgically separated at birth. One of them (Raja) is kidnapped and left on the train tracks by a smuggler, played by Zakir Hussain, while the other (Prem) one grows up with the family in London. Comedy ensues as both of them end up in compromising situation because of their genetic connection, which allows them to feel each other's pain. And of course, when the twins' paths cross, it's double the fun.

What's Yayy 

• Varun Dhawan is at his best. This is his forte from beginning to end and he doesn't disappoint in the entertainment department. And you can just imagine the energy when there's two of him. Stepping into Salman Khan's shoes is not an easy thing, but trust me when I say that Dhawan has pulled it off quite nicely and it doesn't look forced. It is not everyday that you root for a rascal, but when you see Dhawan as Raja, you somehow end up doing that. And everyone in the theatres loved him—the adults, the kids, and the elders—all were hooked from the moment he appeared on screen.
• The supporting cast is a delight to watch on screen. Everyone from Jacqueline Fernandez, and Taapsee Pannu to Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav have delivered performances with utmost sincerity. Jacqueline shines as a bubbly, over-energetic girl in love while Taapsee reels you in with her simplicity and girl-next-door vibe. The gem in all of this is Rajpal Yadav, who might just have given the best performance of his career in this one. We could definitely call this film his comeback. As for Anupam Kher, his comedic timing is something everyone aspires for.
• The direction, given that it's David Dhawan who has made this film, is absolutely on point. There are hardly any dull moments and from the very first scene you know that the king of comedy has you hooked. Ritesh Soni, the lead editor, is also to be credited for the fast-paced cut-to-cut editing. It's simple and to the point.
• Another yayy for Judwaa 2 is undoubtedly the music. The re-creation of Tan Tana Tan, Oonchi Hai Building has just hit the right chord with the audience. Even the background score of the film is the same as the original, with minor tweaks here and there. If you're a Salman fan, this will make you feel nostalgic and bring a smile on your face at the same time.
• Last but not the least, The best part of Judwaa 2 is that David Dhawan has tried to be faithful to the plot for the most part of the film, and that's where we can relate to the earlier version of the film. For a remake, this might be one of the best in the industry. It gives you feeling of freshness while being rooted in its essence. You don't see a lot of remakes having a similar impact as the original and that's where this film wins.

What's Nayy 

• The duration of the film could have easily been shortened by 15-20 minutes. Just because it has all the positives from the original, doesn't mean that David Dhawan couldn't have removed the mistakes from it as well. The villain, Charlie, kept on chanting a line throughout the film, which went like, "main seedha point pe aata hoon". We wish the film did that too.
• We wouldn't have minded seeing more of Salman on screen. His cameo could have been much better than the small appearance he had given. He still managed to get the applause and whistles, but his character hardly added anything to the story.

To conclude, if you're looking for a mind-boggling, thoughtful film, this is not your cup of tea. This is a full-on, out and out masala entertainer that requires you to leave all logic at home. If you're looking to chill, have a good time, laugh and get entertained, then this Varun Dhawan starrer is perfect for your weekend. Judwaa 2 is the perfect end to the Durga Puja festivities.
