I was in the crowds of thousands of people walking along the roads from Juhu to Carter Road in the wedding procession of the greatest superstar Rajesh Khanna that evening - Ali Peter John

And the one scene that cought my young attention was the one in which Rajesh the bridegroom moved his veil of flowers from his face and looked up at the sky and I thought he was looking at the stars who he always believed decided the fate of man. Could he have been asking the stars what his future was as the husband of Dimple . .....

Dimple was a school girl when she was just one of the thousands of girls who stood outside Ashirwaad the bungalow of Rajesh Khanna just to have one glimpse of him , which the girls sometimes got if they were lucky or sometimes didn't for days , but they kept waiting for him......

Times changed things changed . Raj Kapoor made Bobby with the same Dimple who was the daughter of his business man friend Chunibhai Kapadia and both Rishi Kapoor and Dimple were overnight stars .

Dimple had thousands of crazy followers , devoties and lovers and Rajesh Khanna was one of them .

Rajesh was the superstar of India. He had a palatial bungalow called Ashirwaad , a fleet of the best cars and a retinue of servants and a crowd of dreams with which he slept and woke up.

He was in love with several women and there were women who were in love him . He was seventeen years older than Dimple , but he wanted to marry Dimple and no one could make him change his mind .

He was obsessed with his dream of marrying Dimple and could do anything for it. And so he took the world by one big surprise and married Dimple Kapadia in March 1973 .

The dream marriage was over . The excitement and the euphoria ended and life was back to normal. They had two daughters , Twinkle and Rinkle . And then there were stories coming out of Ashirwaad , stories about humiliation , torture and harassment from Dimple.

Rajesh's career failed and floundered and showed signs of frustration . His films failed, his business failed and even his bungalow was mortgaged . To add to his misery Dimple left Ashirwaad with her daughters.

And the final stroke came when he was diagnosed for cancer and nothing could save him. The greatest superstar had died died lonely death and was claimed by his family and the whole world only after he was dead.

One wonders what would have happened to him if he had not married Dimple and Dimple didn't have a daughter like Twinkle who would have married a superstar of our time , Akshay Kumar who is said to have made all the arrangements to give the greatest superstar the kind of funeral he deserved and received .
