Art is not a luxury, but a necessity.

Priyanka Chopra who will be making her comeback in Bollywood with Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat starring Salman Khan, slated to release on an EID next year, was also supposed to do Kalpana Chawla’s biopic. However, according to a report in DNA, the biopic is stalled as Kalpana’s husband, Jean-Pierre Harrison has apparently declined to give away the rights.

The projected was to be helmed by Priya Mishra, who was working on the script for around seven years and had met up with Chawla’s father, BL Chawla several times, wherein he signed the deal with her.

DNA quoted its source saying; “After Kalpana’s demise, all rights associated with her estate are said to have been transferred to Harrison and no one else besides him can give the permission to make the film. Even though Priya may have got the go-ahead from Kalpana’s father, it seems that alone may not be enough to make the biopic. Priyanka’s team has tried to acquire the said rights from Harrison, but apparently, he hasn’t agreed to grant them yet.”

Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian woman astronaut in space. Recently, when PeeCee was asked about the biopic, she had swiftly dodged the question by saying that she is looking for the right scripts.
