Kanan Khant's solo exhibition at Nehru Center

Artist Kanan Khant's upcoming exhibition at Mumbai's famous culture and science hub, The Nehru Science Centre, is inspired by life, nature and the spirit of womanhood.

The exhibition will be held from 10th to 16th August 2021, 11 am to 7 pm. It will be inaugurated by well-known actress Neha Mehta and will portray 50+ artworks by the artist.

The exhibition is titled, ‘Zoi by Kanan’. ‘Zoi’ is a Greek word, meaning ‘life’. Kanan’s muse for her art is life itself.

Her artworks are also inspired from nature and the spirit of womanhood. She uses mixed media, never limiting herself to a medium.

Talking about her art, Kanan says, "Many artists usually pick one theme and create artworks revolving around it.

But because my art is inspired by life, and life is in itself a diverse mystery, I have multiple themes reflecting in my artwork.

They also resemble the power of womanhood. I have created a theme honouring the women from mythology, in their free-flowing forms," she says and adds "I also love experimenting with my art and am constantly learning.

My artworks also honour India's past, helping it stay in the present. For example, I have created five paintings using the Kalamkari art form that are focused on feminity -- my way of expressing what the colour power looks like on women."

She also creates landscapes that reflect what she has seen on her travels. Especially places like Spiti in Himachal Pradesh.

Kanan has studied commercial art at Nirmala Niketan College. She has worked as an artist with a leading magazine of India.

She has also worked as an art director at an ad agency and an animation film studio. Since 2015, Kanan is working as a full-time artist and has displayed her art at various exhibitions.

Today, her artworks have found a special place in the hearts and homes of art lovers, in India and abroad.
