Kaun Banega ‘Baiju Bawra’ In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Next Mega Musical Movie ?

‘Showman’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) known for his fetish and panache for period historical costume-centric blockbusters like ‘Bajirao Mastani and ‘Padmaavat’ will launch soon his next musical magnum opus titled ‘Baiju Bawra’ . Which is an engaging love-story with a tragic climax twist. The innovative Bhansali does not wish that his latest movie and its music  be compared with the retro-classic super-hit ‘Baiju Bawra’ (1952)  which had Meena Kumari as ‘Gauri’ and Bharat Bhushan ( in the title role)  playing the charismatic lead pair. With classical maestro composer Naushad-saab handling the Filmfare Award winning score,  each raga-based retro-track remains evergreen even to this day including  ‘‘Tu Ganga Ki Mauj Mein’ , ‘O Duniya Ke Rakhwale’, ‘Man Tarpat, ‘Mohe Bhool Gaye Saawariya’ etc.

The grounded SLB is practical as he insists that “It is impossible to scale those dizzy heights of musical mega-hit ‘Baiju Bawra’, directed by Vijay Bhatt, which ran for 100 weeks , in those days. In fact I am not even thinking   of the colossal music scored by Naushad-saab . But I will certainly give it my ‘best shot’,” says Bhansali who had also directed the iconic SRK-Madhuri-Aishwarya  starrer movie ‘Devdas’ (2002) . Apparently,  the music-savvy SLB plans to introduce new awesome playback voices for his latest magnum opus.  Now the million-dollar question is ‘who’ will he cast in the roles of Baiju and Gauri ? Will his favourite mascot-star-actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh be among the probable short-listed contenders  ? Or will there be a surprise ‘casting coup’ , is what remains to be seen ?
