KAUN KEHTA HAIN KI BHARATIYA HEROINE ABLA NAARI HAIN?

Over the history of Indian cinema, we have witnessed the power-packed performance of action heroes. They have managed to gather the love and attention of the audience time and again. However, our heroines are no less - Jyothi Venkatesh

Apart from being the delicate darlings of our heroes, they have managed to surprise our fans with action-powered performances in certain films.

Here are some of the films that portray women in action roles:

Taapsee Pannu appears in the role of Shabana Khan, who ends up working as a proficient field agent after joining a secret agency. She starts working with two Indian agents working under Ranveer Singh chasing an international arms dealer named Mikhail. The movie starred Manoj Bajpayee, Akshay Kumar, Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles and was directed by Shivam Nair and released in 2017.

Tejas sets out to narrate the story of a fearless fighter pilot. It will focus on the 2016 Indian Air Force historic event where the country’s first defence force inducted women into combat roles. The film will portray some of the most difficult combat missions that IAF forces carried out to keep our country safe. The movie stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead.

Not many Bollywood actresses are known to take up action oriented roles. Our B-town actresses are too busy trying to look oolaala oh-so-pretty in all their films rather than pack some punch.

Though a number of actresses in Hollywood kick ass with tough action roles, this might take quite a while to materialize into something major in the Bollywood circuit.

Neha Dhupia had her tryst with action for the first time in the movie 'Singh is Kinng'. In the movie she played Akshay Kumar's gun-toting associate. Another major role which makes Neha worthy of being in the list was her portrayal of a dreaded gangster in the film, 'Phas Gaya Re Obama'.

Her mannerisms were so in sync with her role that Neha proved that she has every bit of ability to make it as one of the best action heroines that the Hindi film industry can boast of.

Though Bipasha Basu has never really appeared in a full-fledged action role, she has been a part of a number of action movies. The only film where Bipasha came close to being an action girl was in the movie 'Gunaah' where she played the role of a police officer. In action movies like 'Race' and 'Dhoom 2', Bipasha was more of a glamour girl and did not at all get an opportunity to show her skill.

Bipasha had also jumped the bandwagon of action films with two films, 'Players' and 'Singularity' being in the mentioned genre. In fact, in the film 'Singularity' she played a Maratha warrior and we saw her perform some tough action sequences.

Kareena Kapoor may not be very fond of the action genre, but she did play an ISI agent who goes undercover as a personal doctor to a mafia boss in Agent Vinod.
The movie might have been a bit of a damp squib, but Kareena proved her versatility by playing a seductress in a mujra and acting in the action scenes with such aplomb that her boyfriend and co-star Saif , who is now also her husband, went gaga over her stunts.

Touted as Rani's comeback movie, Mardaani was an apt name for the movie. Rani established herself as an out and out action heroine and the movie earned acclaim. Considering how small built she is actually in real life, she was truly great in this film and also followed it up with an encore in its sequel Mardaani 2 too.

Katrina Kaif was not necessarily an action heroine but a heroine of action movies where she did some truly amazing stunts that make us want to mention her in this list. Ek Tha Tiger and Phantom saw Katrina doing some stunts where she definitely stood out.
