There are countless number of books written about a colourful and controversial filmmaker and man who is best known as the showman of India , Raj Kapoor . But frankly , not one of them have been able to do justice to the contribution of the master of Indian cinema - Ali Peter John
This is my personal opinion about the books and I have absolutely nothing against the writers who have made gallant efforts to write these books in efforts to try and do justice to the mighty personality of the showman..
But like they say , there is always hope at the end of every tunnel. And I see that light coming soon in the form of another book , this time written by Rahul Rawail, one of the most prolific directors of the 80s 90s who started his career as an assistant of the showman and later assisted his son Randhir Kapoor and was a very close friend of Rishi Kapoor till the very end .
Rahul shared my disappointment about all the previous books about the showman and felt the need to do justice to his genius , his hard work and his quest for perfection .
It was this passion that literally drove Rahul to give up everything else and give all his time to writing the book .
The book is both a personal tribute to a guru and a look into the work of a man for whom cinema was his only reason to live .
The book is full of anecdotes and photographs which have never been seen before .
And it has a foreword by Randhir Kapoor who Rahul feels is the only authority left to do the job which many think is very easy , but is the most difficult . How does one encompass an entire book in just a few pages ?
The book will be officially released on December 14 , Raj Kapoor's birthday , making the day a red letter day in the history of Indian cinema
