Hindi Divas, an annual day celebrated on 14 September to celebrate the popularity of Hindi as the official language of India, is almost here. Honouring his day, actor Kranti Prakash Jha says that Hindi has always been very close to his heart. “I am in the Hindi film industry. The most important thing that we need to do is to respect Hindi. There are people I know who don't particularly feel good using our national language and but I believe that our language and literature are things that elevate us and I have always felt proud speaking in Hindi. I think people should be encouraged more to speak in Hindi. Whenever I go to Delhi or Patna I make sure I buy Hindi books from there, I just love the language so much I even think in Hindi and translate in English when I speak,” he says.

The actor says that it is his father who has inculcated this love for Hindi in him. “I have inherited the love for Hindi from my father. I have a lot of Hindi books my favourite one is by Dr. Bhagwati Sharan Mishra,” he says.

Kranti urges people to talk more in Hindi. “I request everyone to teach their kids Hindi, kids learn English easily but not Hindi. Hindi is a very beautiful language and we should teach younger generations to talk in Hindi otherwise in the coming years, it would go extinct. It feels sad when the scripts are written in Roman and not Devanagari,” he says.
