KUCH FILMEIN JISME GANPATI BAPPA MAHANAYAK THE....

During the last seventy years, there have been any number of Hindi films in which Lord Ganesh and the festival of Ganpati has played a prominent part and there are still attempts being made by writers and directors to make these two elements an important part of entertainment in films, especially in Hindi and Marathi films - Ali Peter John

There are too many films to enlist here, but let me take notice of some of the films which have grown into landmarks and even masterpieces only because of the inclusion of Ganpati sequences in them.

All credit must go to the writers who have woven the most interesting ingredients to bring in the legend of Lord Ganesh to explain or describe a current day situation.....

SHOR IN THE CITY

The film is packed with the entire festival, with its plot emerging during the festival and ending with the end of the festival 10 days later.

It consists of various shots of chaos such as jammed roads, people dancing wildly, unrecognisable and coloured faces, that is experienced during the festival in a metro like Mumbai.

AGNEEPATH

The remake of the 1990 film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Agneepath with Hrithik Roshan, shows the festivities through the song ‘Deva Shree Ganesha,’ which is now used by dancers for Ganesh Vandana all across the globe.

The film shows the grandeur of Ganesh Chaturthi through this song amidst all the action and drama.

DON

Another remake of a 1978 Amitabh Bachchan starrer, Don, also has a dance number that is loved by Ganpati devotees and followers.

The song can be heard around the city, with dance buffs flaunting energetic dance bmoves.

The action and drama perfectly align with the electrifying aura that develops during Ganesh Chaturthi.

ATITHI TUM KAB JAAOGE ?

Even though the film culminates on the last day, which is meant for the immersion of Ganpati idols, it contains small elements of the festivals like prayers at home, excited kids running in the pavilion where Lord Ganesha resides for 10 days and many more.

This comedic retreat starring Ajay Devgn and Paresh Rawal is a delight if one is looking for some laughs during the Ganesh festival.

ABCD: ANYBODY CAN DANCE

Directed by Remo D’Souza, ABCD is India’s first dance film., It has a thrilling number based on Ganesh Chaturthi since the festival is incomplete without dance.

The song oozes energy and devotion as the actor-dancers give a powerhouse performance in the film.

Films and films may be made in the years to come, but filmmakers will not stop making films revolving from Lord Ganesh and Ganesh Utsav.
