Dilip kumar had any number of women who were willing to give up their lives to marry him and the closest to reach that goal were Kamini Kaushal and Madhubala, but he finally married Saira Banu who was 22 years younger than him and there is a story to it - Ali Peter John

Dilip kumar always knew Saira has as a child and the daughter of Naseem Banu who was his contemporary, but it was the little Saira who had a crush on him even when she was in school in London and after she had seen him in a film called 'Aan'.

Destiny however kept playing games, Saira came back to Bombay and within no time made her debut as an actress in 'Junglee' and was soon a very successful actress.

She worked with several actors including Rajendra Kumar who she fell in love with madly and told her mother that she wanted to marry him.

The big hindu muslim divide came in the way and decides Rajendra Kumar was a married man and so Naseem looked for all ways to end this relationship between her daughter and her hero.

Naseem and dilip kumar used to meet very often as they were neighbours and she once mentioned her big problem to her friend and that was the beginning of Dilip Kumar trying to take some interest in solving his friend's problem.

Various "tricks" were planned by the two for Dilip and Saira to come together and finally what Naseem wanted happened and Dilip and Saira got married in a dream marriage in 1966 and they remained married, except for a brief skirmish when a woman called Asma came into Dilip kumar's life, but Saira's love for her Sahab ultimately triumphed when he came back to her.

Saira proved her love for her Sahab during the 20 years that she looked after him like no other nurse could have looked after him. And now when he is no longer with her, she lives the life of a recluse and says, " What's the use of living when you lose the reason of your living?"

Dev anand was known as the most handsome hero of the 60s and like Dilip kumar, he too had women who could do anything for him, even die, but he, even as a struggler fell in love with a superstar like Suraiya and their love was mutual.

They did seven romantic films together and a time came when they decided to get married, but Suraiya had a grandmother who deadly against the marriage and hated Dev so much that she could even kill him.

The reason as was later known was not so much of his being not so successful but because of his being a Hindu(Suraiya was a staunch muslim).

One night Dev decided to go to Suraiya's house in Govind kunj on marine drive and he had carried a diamond ring with him which he wanted to present to Suraiya and propose to her.

He had taken all the precautions to see that Suraiya's grandmother didn't head him. The lovers had a private meeting on the terrace of the building and the meeting was supported by Suraiya's mother without letting the grandmother know. But when the grandmother came to know, she created hell for Dev and Suraiya.

She took the diamond ring and flung it into the sea outside Govind Mahal and the two lovers cried bitterly till the early hours of the morning and then they never ever met again...

That same afternoon, dev went to the mehboob studio where he was shooting for his film 'Taxi driver' with his heroine and friend Kalpana kartik and he called the registerar and after telling kalpana about what he had in mind he slipped another precious ring on her finger and Dev and kalpana were declared husband and wife and they continued shooting.

And how a struggling actor called Sunil Dutt saved a superstar like Nargis from a raging fire during the shooting of Mother India and how the two fell in love inspite of the huge distinction between them and got married according to Arya samaj rites is a bollywood folktale now.
