Kunal Nirola, who is currently seen in the show Ishq Aaj Kal, is a big fan of the festival of Rakshabandhan. The actor says that he loves celebrating it with his cousin sisters. "Rakshabandhan is a very special bond between a brother and a sister. It's a blessing and security. A sister ties a knot on your hand and her brother has a duty to fulfill. I don’t have a real sister, I have cousin sisters. All my cousin sisters never made me feel that I don’t have a real sister," he says. He adds, "It feels so special when a girl ties a rakhi on your hand and you have to protect her forever. That feeling is so pure." The actor has great memories of the festival. "It’s a big festival in Punjab and I remember when during Rakhi there used to be cartoon rakhis, I would take my mother and make her buy them and next day I would ask my sister to tie it. I used to have 10rakhis and I loved those. During childhood there used to be a competition between me and my friends to see who has the maximum rakhis. I would get so attached to rakhis that I never threw them in the dustbin. I used to keep them safe in my cupboard and I still have them."
Work has kept Kunal away from his sisters but they still celebrated Rakhi. "It's been 2 years that I havent been able to go back. My sisters send me rakhis and I used to tie it myself. They used to call me and tell me that send us a picture that you have tied it on your hand. It is such a great connection that I share with my sisters," he says. His sister in law also means a lot to him. "My bhabhi doesn’t have a real brother and she ties rakhi to me. She’s more than a real sister to me. She’s very happy with my achievements and always supports me. I am blessed to have all of them in my life," he says.
