Madhuri Dixit and her family were in big trouble over financial matters . Her elder brother Ajit and sister Bharati had left for America to study medicine and the younger brother , Roopa was studying to be an architect and was a  good painter. But Madhuri who was studying microbiology was still not certain about what she wanted to do .

It was a time when Doordarshan had just started establishing itself and some new directors from the FTII who were not finding work in films looked for opportunities in Doordarshan and Anil Tejani was one of them .

Tejani was making a serial called " Bombay Meri Hai " . He had signed  known actors like Benjamin Gilani and Mazhar Khan to play important roles , but he wanted a good and young actress to play the leading lady .

Tejani tried many new actresses of the time , but was not satisfied with any of them. Till a friend introduced him to a new girl who had no background in films or in TV . Her name was Madhuri Dixit .

The serial made by Tejani went on smoothly till there were some financial hassles and the shooting was stalled for a while and was then called off and was never started again .

Benjamin become a star in his own class . Mazhar waited for a good role and his long wait ended with his finding the role of Abdul in Ramesh Sippy's. " Shaann", but to his bad luck , the film was not able to come anywhere near the magic of Sippy's all time blockbuster , " Sholay ", which affected the careers of everyone who had worked in the film and Mazhar was no exception .

Mazhar continued to work as a velain in some small films and even started his own big film , but nothing seemed to be working for him and even as he waited for his luck to smile on him , he married Zeenat Aman and they had two sons .

But destiny continued to be cruel to Mazhar . He was diagnosed for pancreatic cancer of which he finally died when he was still in his forties and Zeenat who loved him is a widow who lives with memories of the good times she had spent with Mazhar and their sons . And Anil Tejani went on to produce  ,"Partner ", one of the earliest films signed by Deepti Naval . And destiny for the first time showed how partial it could be to a beautiful young Madhuri Dixit. She became the  "dkak dhak girl" and the 1 2 3 wali Rohini and then never looked back .
