Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon Season 3 uses concept of #LambiSagaai to add a fresh perspective on marriage & relationship

Population Foundation of India’s popular edutainment show Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon in its Season 3 that is currently being aired on National Broadcaster Doordarshan has used a unique termed ‘Lambi Sagai’, which promotes the concept of extended courtship before marriage between partners for greater involvement in the relationship.

Executive Director Population Foundation of India, Poonam Muttreja adds, “Even though the legal age of marriage in India for young women and men is 18 and 21 years respectively, the culture of marrying off girls early, whether in child marriages or right after they turn 18, stems from unmarried women being seen as burdens to their families. At best, girls are seen as temporary visitors in their parents’ homes and unwelcome guests at their in-laws’ place. Lambi Sagai, or an extended courtship period gives women enough time to be mentally ready for marriage. It promotes spousal communication, greater understanding and readiness in the relationship, all of which are crucial aspects of a healthy marriage."

The show tells the story of a young girl Panna, whose marriage is called off by her future mother-in-law after she is assaulted by a group of boys. Panna's fiance Mihir commits to marry her despite the opposition from his mother and other villagers. When Panna mentions that he would have to wait for a few years until they get married, Mihir emphasizes that their ‘Lambi Sagai’ or extended courtship would be better for them.

Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon revolves around the inspiring journey of Dr. Sneha Mathur, a young doctor, who leaves behind her lucrative career in Mumbai and decides to work in her village. The show focuses on Dr. Sneha’s crusade to ensure the finest quality of healthcare for all. Under her leadership, village women find their voices through collective action.

Season 3 of Population Foundation of India's "Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon- I, A Woman, Can Achieve Anything" is supported by the REC Foundation and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
