The Nightingale must have said or whispered many things to her near and dear ones during the last days of her life, but this is something that has come straight from her younger brother Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar - Ali Peter John

She had told him to let her name been officially known as Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar.

And even though her brother who she used to call ‘Bal’ had to go through one hell of a life after she died, he never forgot her wish about her name.

And to make her wish official, her brother presented a portrait of his eldest sister to the Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar Auditorium in Vile Parle in Mumbai. And below the portrait was the name of the great singer painted simply as “Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar”.

There were some who wanted “Bharat Ratna” to be added to the name, but the brother said he would keep it as she wanted it.
