Journalism in the world started in Rome in 131 AD. From the same year, the first daily newspaper started coming out whose name was "Acta Durina". The first printing machine in India came in 1674 but India's first newspaper appeared 100 years later. Published in 1776 and its publisher was Willem Bolts of the East India Company. As far as freedom of expression is concerned, the first to be published was James Augustus Heekey's newspaper 'Bengal Gazette' in 1780, which had two pages and Articles were published on the personal lives of senior officials of the East India Company.

The first newspaper published in the Indian language in 1819 was the Bengali language paper 'Samvad Kaumudi', whose publisher was Raja Ram Mohan Roy, while in 1826, the first newspaper was published under the name 'Udant Martand'. Publication of the first Hindi newspaper started, this was said by International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry (ICMEI), Chancellor and President of Global Festival of Journalism, Dr. Sandeep Marwah, who inaugurated the 12th Global Festival of Journalism. Addressing the guests and students, he further said that behind every good work is hard work and a goal is achieved only then success is achieved, today journalism is the fourth step of democracy.

Many dignitaries were present on the occasion including Sumit Chaudhary Editor TV 9, Jaspreet Kaur Senior Anchor, News 18 India Ranjana Singh Rathod, Senior Anchor News Nation, Abu A Jazer of Palestine Embassy, Mr. Faya F Milimouno, Media Advisor, Guinea Embassy, Former Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Deepak Singhal, Ambassador of Republic of Chad Dilla Lucien, Ambassador of Algeria Embassy Dr. Ali Achoui, Ambassador of Uzbekistan Sardar Rustambayev, Counselor of Embassy of Russian Federation Petr Sizov were present.

The festival was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp and Ganesh Vandana, along with the release of the poster of International Journalism Day and the release of Amber Sharma founder Mowgli's book "Bombay to Bangkok" and the inauguration of the animation exhibition and photography exhibition. The visiting guests were given awards, lifetime membership certificates and festival mementos. On this occasion, festival director Dr. Ajay Kumar also presented his views. In the end, a musical program was also performed by Uzbekistani artists.
