The country's veteran radio host Ameen Sayani has passed away at the age of 91. Ameen Sayani died in Mumbai on Tuesday, 20 February 2024 due to a heart attack. His son Rajil Sayani confirmed the news of his father's death. There is a wave of mourning in the entire country due to the demise of Ameen Sayani.

Ameen Sayani's funeral will be held on Thursday

Let us tell you that Ameen Sayani's son Rajil Sayani said that his father suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night, after which they took him to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, where he died. Doctors at the hospital treated him but could not save him and he was declared dead. The funeral of Ameen Sayani will take place on Thursday, 22 February 2024 as the family is waiting for some relatives to reach Mumbai on Wednesday.

Ameen Sayani's radio career

Ameen Sayani, whose introduction on Radio Ceylon 'Hello brothers and sisters, I am your friend Ameen Sayani' still evokes deep memories. Whereas Ameen Sayani started his career with Radio Ceylon. Earlier he was an English broadcaster. After independence, his inclination turned towards Hindi. Sayani got her real recognition from the radio show 'Geetmala' which started in December 1952.

With 'Geetmala', Ameen became the first host in India to host a show from beginning to end. The radio show 'Geetmala' with chart-topping hits became very popular in South Asia.

Due to its success, the Geetmala show ran for 42 years. It was later relaunched in 2000–2001 and 2001–2003 with minor changes in its name. Ameen Sayani has produced, composed (or delivered) over 54,000 radio programs and 19,000 spots/jingles since 1951.

Akashvani paid tribute

Akashvani, his eldest family, has expressed grief over the demise of Ameen Sayani. Paying tribute to him, All India Radio said, "One of the most brilliant presenters, Ameen Sayani, has passed away. He was the iconic presenter of the radio show Binaka Geetmala. May his soul rest in peace!"
