In fact, the controversy started when Anurag Kashyap criticised the censor board amid the ongoing controversy over the film Phule, which describes the life and work of social reformers Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule. Anurag Kashyap apologized

While apologizing for the statement given by him, Anurag Kashyap said, "This is my apology, not for my post, but for that one line that was taken out of context and for the hatred that is being spread. No work or speech is worth that your daughter, family, friends and colleagues get rape and death threats from the gangsters of sanskar. So, what has been said cannot be taken back and I will not take it back. But if you want to abuse someone, abuse me. My family has neither said anything nor do they ever speak".

Anurag Kashyap made this appeal to the Brahmin community

Along with this, Anurag Kashyap further appealed to the Brahmin community and said, “So, if you are looking for an apology, this is my apology. Brahmins, please leave the women alone. The scriptures also teach so much decency, not just Manusmriti. Decide for yourself what kind of Brahmin you really are. As far as I am concerned, I apologize”.
