Actress-politician Khushbu Sundar mourned her demise in an emotional post on Instagram. She wrote, "An era of golden cinema has come to an end. Saroja Devi Amma was the greatest of all time. No other female artiste in South India has earned as much fame and name as she did. She was such a sweet and charming soul. I shared a great rapport with her. My Bangalore trip was incomplete without meeting her. And she would call me whenever I visited Chennai. I will miss her a lot. Amma, may your soul rest in peace. Om Shanti. Saroja Devi."
Career of Saroja Devi
Saroja Devi, who got her first break at the age of 17 in the Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidas (1955), is also known as the first female superstar of Kannada cinema. The actress won a National Award for her performance in her very first film. Her Tamil film, Nadodi Mannan (1958) with another legendary actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MG Ramachandran, made her one of the top actresses of Tamil cinema. Though she got married in 1967, Saroja Devi remained in demand, especially in the Tamil film industry.
