Despite four consecutive foul throws, despite finishing second, he became the second male athlete from post-independence India to win two Olympic medals in individual competitions. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in his second attempt with a brilliant throw of 92.97 meters, the sixth-longest distance in history, which surprised the Stade de France.
