The action-packed trailer of the web series 'Citadel: Honey Bunny' starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been released. This series is directed by Raj and DK. The full-action avatar of Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu is going to be seen in the series. But do you know that Samantha was not the first choice of the makers for Citadel: Honey Bunny. In such a situation, let's know the reason behind this.
Producer spoke on the casting of Samantha and Varun Dhawan
Raj Nidimoru revealed in his recent interview why there was a big gap between the casting of Samantha and Varun Dhawan, who was the first star to be cast in the show. He said, "We did not tell her during The Family Man 2 that we were making Citadel: Honey Bunny, because we were still in the development phase". Let us tell you that in the year 2019 when Samantha was shooting for the director duo's The Family Man 2, work on Citadel: Honey Bunny had already started. However, she joined it much later.
Samantha was not the first choice of the makers due to 'logistic problems'
Raj Nidimoru continued his point and said that Samantha was not his first choice due to some 'logistic problems'. Talking about this, he further said, "At that time, Varun Dhawan had called DK and DK told me, 'What do you think about her for Citadel?' We thought maybe it would be okay to take Varun and we decided to make a little change. For a long time, we kept thinking about who could play the character of Honey. The first version of Citadel: Honey Bunny had a very Hindi-speaking female protagonist. On the other hand, Samantha's Hindi was very less during The Family Man 2. So she was not an automatic choice".
'It is difficult for a Tamil speaker to learn Hindi' - Raj Nidimoru
Raj Nidimoru said, "There was always this question of how she would pull off the whole role and then, I was surprised how she suddenly learned a new language like Hindi. It is almost impossible for a Hindi-speaking person to speak Telugu or Tamil. Similarly, it is difficult for a Telugu or Tamil speaker to learn Hindi. So I thought it was impossible to get an actress like Samantha who could speak the language well. So, we were not thinking about Samantha at all at that time."
Samantha reacted to the words of Raj Nidimoru
In the same interview, reacting to Raj's words, Samantha said, "Honey was in front of their eyes all this time, but they couldn't see it! I was very bad when it comes to Hindi and I am still bad at it. It's not that I don't understand the language or can't speak it. It's just that I am very scared and nervous thinking that my pronunciation or accent might not be right". Directed by producers Raj and DK, the series will stream on Amazon Prime Video from November 7.
