Dhirajlal Hiralal Ambani, who we know as Dhirubhai Ambani, was born on 28 December 1932 in an ordinary family of Hirachand Gordhanbhai Ambani and Jamnaben in Chorwad, Junagadh (Gujarat). Dhirubhai Ambani was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He created his path because he believed that, "Think big, think fast, and think ahead. Ideas are not anyone's inheritance." With this thought, he had traveled from the bottom to the top in his life.

Dhirubhai is an example of hard work and courage.

Born in a middle-class teacher's family, Dhirubhai studied only till high school. To help his family financially, he started selling pakodas and along with that, he used to do some odd jobs. At the age of sixteen, on the advice of his elder brother, he went to Aden, Yemen with a friend, where he worked as an assistant at a petrol pump with a salary of only Rs 300. Based on his hard work, dedication, and hard work, Dhirubhai reached the post of manager in two years.

Had adopted a unique way of learning business

After working in Yemen for a few years, Dhirubhai returned to his country. Dhirubhai was inclined towards business right from the beginning and his inclination made him a successful businessman of the country. It is believed that when Dhirubhai was working in Yemen, he used to go to a cafe there to have tea so that he could listen to the talks of the elders visiting there and understand how the elders think and how they can help him. They will understand the intricacies of business. He learned about business in his way so that in the future he could use it in his work.

Dhirubhai started with the import and export of polyester

It was Dhirubhai's dream to do business but he did not have the investment needed to make this dream come true, so after returning to India, he along with his cousin Champaklal Dimani started the import business of polyester thread and spices. Started exporting, where he used to import polyester and export spices. Along with this business, he started Reliance Commercial Corporation with just Rs 15,000 from the office on Narasimha Street, Masjid Bunder, whose first office was established on Narsinath Road with a telephone, a table, and three chairs. Initially, only two assistant employees used to work with him in this company.

It is said that both the brothers had different temperaments regarding business, so in 1965 they ended their partnership and separated.

Dhirubhai named his first brand ‘Vimal’

Dhirubhai had knowledge of the yarn business and he believed in doing business by taking risks, hence he decided to pursue the yarn business only. While doing this business, he also got a good understanding of the clothing business and in 1966, he started a business mile in Naroda, Ahmedabad. This business was to make clothes using polyester yarn. Dhirubhai named this business Vimal after his elder brother Ramaniklal Ambani's son Vimal Ambani. This brand was heavily promoted throughout India and this is how the Vimal brand became a household name in India.

Dhirubhai Ambani was a determined businessman

Let us tell you that in 1975, the World Bank visited the Reliance Textile Unit and the special thing about this visit was that the World Bank had described the textile unit of Reliance as better than the standards of developed countries.

To expand his business, Dhirubhai Ambani took a license from the government in 1980 to manufacture polyester filament yarn. Similarly, Dhirubhai Ambani kept climbing the ladder of success and then he never looked back.

Dhirubhai Ambani started the equity cult in India

For your information, let us tell you that the credit for the beginning of the equity cult in India is given to Dhirubhai Ambani. In 1977, more than 58,000 investors from different parts of India subscribed to the IPO of Reliance. Dhirubhai was able to assure the rural people of Gujarat that being shareholders of his company would only give them a return on their investment.

Dhirubhai Ambani expanded Reliance in different sectors, which mainly included petrochemicals, telecommunication, information technology, energy, electricity, retail, textiles, infrastructure services, capital markets, and logistics.

It was due to the hard work, dedication, courage, and wisdom of Dhirubhai Ambani that by 2012, more than 80,000 employees worked in the company in a single room, and it gave a 5% tax rebate on the entire tax of the Central Government. According to a survey conducted in 2012, Reliance was also included among the 500 richest companies in the world. Let us tell you that Dhirubhai Ambani has also been included in the list of Asia's top businessmen.

His children have taken Reliance to a higher position

Dhirubhai Ambani married Kokilaben with whom he had four children. Two sons Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani and two daughters Neena Kothari and Deepti Salgaokar. Dhirubhai's sons have succeeded in taking the business built by him forward. He has taken Reliance to a new level.

On June 24, 2002, Dhirubhai Ambani was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai due to a heart attack. After which his health continued to deteriorate and on 6 July 2002, this great personality of India breathed his last and said goodbye to the world.

After his death, his son Mukesh Ambani took over the business empire built by him very efficiently and took it to new heights. Mukesh Ambani is one of the richest men in the country today and not only this, the whole world knows him as a successful businessman.
