Petition filed against 'Ghooskhor Pandat'

Mahendra Chaturvedi, through advocate Vineet Jindal, filed the petition, seeking a writ of mandamus directing authorities to block the streaming of the film. "Ghuskhor Pandit" stars Manoj Bajpayee as a corrupt police officer nicknamed Pandit. The petitioner claims he is unhappy with the film. He argues that associating the word "Pandit" with bribery (bribery and corruption) tarnishes the reputation and prestige of the Brahmin community, as well as his own work. The petitioner describes himself as an Acharya dedicated to the study, teaching, and propagation of Indian scriptures.

Objection raised on the title of the film

The petition objects to Netflix India's announcement and promotion of the film with this title, stating that the word has historically signified scholarship, ethical conduct, spiritual guidance, and moral authority in Indian society and religious traditions. The petitioner claims that the title and first look video violate fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 21, and 25 of the Constitution of India because they discriminate against a particular religious and social group, violate the right to honor and dignity, and denigrate religious and cultural identity based on faith, customs, and traditions. The petitioner also alleges that the Indian government has failed to create an effective regulatory system to prevent misuse of creative freedom on OTT platforms.
