Government bans ULLU, ALTBalaji:The central government has taken strict action regarding pornographic content. In fact, today, on 25 July 2025, the central government has banned 25 OTT apps like ALTT, ULLY, Desiflix, and BigShots. These apps are accused of serving pornographic and bold content to the users, which also includes Ekta Kapoor's app ALTT Balaji. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued clear instructions to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to immediately block these websites and apps in India.
The central government took action under these sections
For your information, let us tell you that the central government has taken action against these apps under Section 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Indian Justice Code, 2023 and Section 4 of the Pornographic Pictures Prohibition Act, 1986. According to these laws, any content that insults the dignity of women, spoils social values or spreads obscenity is required to be stopped and its violation is considered a punishable offense.
Ban imposed on these apps
According to the report, the apps and websites that have been banned by the government due to objectionable content include ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots App, DesiFlix, Boomx, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalwa App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, HitPrime, Feneo, ShowX, Soul Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and TriFlix.
NCW and political leaders targeted the ULLU series
On March 14, 2024, the I&B Ministry had blocked 18 OTT platforms, which were found to be streaming obscene and pornographic content.

In May, a clip from OTT platform ULLU's web series "House Arrest", hosted by former Bigg Boss contestant Ajaz Khan, faced criticism after it went viral for allegedly containing pornographic content. Several politicians condemned the video, including Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi. "I have raised the issue in the Standing Committee that apps like Ullu App and Alt Balaji have managed to evade the ban imposed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for pornographic content. I am still waiting for their response," she wrote on Twitter. Soon after the outrage, the National Commission for Women (NCW) also took suo motu cognizance of the series and criticised its portrayal of women and warned of possible regulatory action, including a complete ban.
Alt Balaji was launched this year
Let us tell you that the company's streaming content wing, Alt Balaji, was launched in the year 2017. The platform has produced several successful long-form content as well as reality shows, but has faced court cases over erotica like XXX and Gandi Baat.
