The first look of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-awaited series, 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar' is out. The film stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and others in lead roles. The cast and makers released the first look of Heeramandi, and it is as gorgeous, exotic, and dramatic as expected from Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for films like Devdas, Bajirao Mastani, and many more.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut show
With Heeramandi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali brings his regal signature flair to stories of love and betrayal in the lives of prostitutes in pre-independence India. The series explores the cultural reality of Heeramandi, a glittering district, through the stories of prostitutes and their patrons, set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Indian independence struggle of the 1940s.
The series stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh in lead roles. The official streaming date of the show is still awaited. However, the series is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2024. Sharing the first look on Instagram, Netflix India wrote in the caption, “Here's your first look at legendary Indian producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first series ever: 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar'!”
About Heeramandi
In a recent statement, the makers described the show as 'a mix of love, betrayal, inheritance and politics in the kothas (houses of courtesans).' He said, "Heeramandi promises Sanjay Leela Bhansali's signature style of larger-than-life stories, complex and soulful characters, and the undulating dynamics of a world filled with conflict during a defining period for India. Like all of the author's works, Heeramandi will also do the same, his compositions and music are unique and remain among the audience like his stories."
Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Heeramandi
In a statement last year, series creator Sanjay Leela Bhansali told ANI, "Heeramandi is an important milestone in my journey as a filmmaker. It is an epic, first-of-its-kind series based on prostitutes. Hai Lahore. It's an ambitious, grand, and immersive series; so I'm nervous but excited to make it. I'm looking forward to our partnership with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to audiences around the world."
