Karan Johar said this about Dharma deal with Adar Poonawala

Famous filmmaker Karan Johar's production house Dharma Productions has announced a big partnership. Serum Productions, the company of Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawala, has bought 50 percent stake in Dharma Productions for Rs 1000 crore. Meanwhile, Karan Johar spoke openly about selling 50% stake in his Dharma Productions to Serum Institute's Adar Poonawala and said that he was quite lost in the meetings in which he had to sort out the details of the deal.

Let us tell you that Karan Johar, while talking about the Dharma Productions deal, said that he was 'traumatised' during his meetings. The conversation was moderated by filmmaker Siddharth Roy Kapur, who joked that Adar might say that he paid 'too much money' to get a stake in Dharma, while Karan might feel that he was not paid enough. Karan said, "I didn't know I had any value. Now I find out."

Karan Johar further added, "I have to say this, and I probably won't sound very smart when I do this. But that's the way I want to sound. I was in shock in a lot of those meetings. I'm a creative artist. What is 'put', what is 'call', what is 'exit'? He kept saying, 'I will drag and you will tag', and I was like, I know in a completely different way what 'drag' is, and what 'tag' is from the price I pay in a retail store. I know in a very different way what 'put' and 'call' is, but I didn't know what was happening when the Excel sheet came in front of me."

'We closed a major part of this deal on a Zoom call' - Karan Johar

Karan said he was surprised that the deal was mostly finalised over a Zoom call. "I have to tell you, the dynamism that Adar showed was almost inspirational for me. We did a major part of this deal over a Zoom call. He was a superstar. He had a few questions that needed to be answered, and then he said, 'Where do we sign'. We were in discussions for a year and a half, and then he came, and surprised us all, and I thought, 'Maybe I would have liked to do business this way if I could afford'." Karan explained that the main reason behind the partnership was to take Dharma to the next level, where they could fund their projects without external support.
