After this, Mamta Kulkarni was asked about the reports which said that Kulkarni used to meditate and observe fasts during Navratri, but at night she would go to the Taj and drink two pegs of scotch. Answering this question, Mamta Kulkarni replied, "While in Bollywood, my life revolved around a strict routine. Whenever I went for a shoot, I would carry three bags. One would contain my clothes, while the other would contain my portable temple. This temple, set up on a table in my room, was where I would worship before leaving for work. Only after completing this ritual, I would go on my shooting schedule".
"I used to celebrate Navratri"- Mamta Kulkarni
Continuing her talk, Mamta Kulkarni further said, "I used to celebrate Navratri. This Navratri is a nine-day siddhi. I had taken a pledge to keep fasts and perform three havans in the morning, afternoon and evening. I lived on water only for nine days. I performed yagya with 36 kg of sandalwood. My designer, who was from Bollywood at that time, said to me, 'Mamta, what are you doing? You have become very serious. Get up, nine days are enough, let's go now.' Then we went to see the Taj; one or two Navratris passed like this. I used to drink scotch, but after two pegs I had to run to the washroom. It was as if the intoxication of alcohol had gone to my head. Nine days of penance and lack of nutrition had exhausted me. I felt as if there was a burning sensation inside me. I sat in the washroom for 40 minutes."
