Meanwhile, Manoj Bajpayee has made a scathing assessment of the support for independent cinema and artists in India. Speaking at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, the multiple National Award winner spoke about how streaming platforms do not support independent content.
Manoj Bajpayee spoke on independent cinema
In fact, on the opening day of IFFI 2024 on Thursday 20 November 2024, Manoj Bajpayee addressed the attendees in the masterclass. He said that non-mainstream cinema in India is going through ups and downs. The actor said, "We are at our lowest right now. We thought there was a strong platform for independent cinema, but now even the OTT platforms have stopped welcoming that kind of creativity. We are living in a period of uncertainty. It is visible everywhere. One day, independent cinema will emerge again. Independent cinema is the only cinema that is living up to the definition of cinema as art".
"The industry will not give me what I want" - Manoj Bajpayee
Along with this, Manoj Bajpayee also told how he reached a crossroads two decades after the beginning of his career. The actor said, "When I was doing Gangs of Wasseypur, I realized that this industry will not give me what I want. They were not writing the scripts that I wanted and were not giving opportunities to talents who have this potential. Then I realized that I have to look for my directors and scripts or else you just have to wait for eternity for that one script, and I was desperate".
Manoj Bajpayee's work front
Manoj has four films releasing in 2024 Netflix dark comedy Killer Soup, Ram Reddy's The Fable, Police Procedural Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout, the film Bhaiyaji. The actor is all set to be seen in the film Dispatch. Written by Ishani Banerjee and Kanu Bahl, Dispatch is produced by Ronnie Screwvala and presented by RSVP Movies. While the film's cinematography is handled by Siddharth Diwan and it is edited by Samarth Dixit. Dispatch will premiere on ZEE5 on December 13. Along with this, the actor is set to reprise his role of Srikant Tiwari in the third season of The Family Man, which is rumoured to release in 2025.
