In fact, in his latest interview, director Siddharth P Malhotra, while talking about the casting of Meena Kumari's biopic, said, "It's all a hypothesis. I am in New York right now and will be back in Mumbai by the end of July. Only after that will I start my narration. I am going to finalize the casting of Kamal Amrohi first. Until then, I will not move forward on the casting for the role of Meena Kumari ji". At the same time, the director admitted that rumors keep spreading about the casting of the biopic, but he cannot confirm anything until September.

In addition, during the conversation, director Siddharth P Malhotra was asked if Kiara Advani was approached for the role. He said, "We have had talks about possibly doing it. She is pregnant and will deliver in some time. Now in the last few months before the delivery, it is unrealistic to discuss it."

Last year, Saregama, in collaboration with Bilal Amrohi and its other partners, had announced a biopic based on Meena Kumari's love story with her producer-husband Kamal Amrohi in a joint Instagram post. At the time, it was shared that Kamal and Meena will narrate their 20-year journey, starting from their first meeting when she was just 18 and Kamal Amrohi was 34, to the creation, filming and release of the classic Pakeezah. AR Rahman, Irshad Kamil, Bhavani Iyer and Kausar Munir are believed to be attached to the project.
