Veteran Bollywood actor Mukul Dev, who made his acting debut in 1996 with the film Dastak, passed away on Friday night at the age of 54 in New Delhi. The exact cause of his death has not yet been officially disclosed, and the circumstances surrounding his passing remain unclear.
A Family Rooted in Cinema and Service
Mukul Dev was the younger brother of renowned actor Rahul Dev. He was previously married to Shilpa Dev, but the couple separated in 2005. Mukul’s father, Hari Dev, served as an Assistant Commissioner in Delhi Police and passed away in 2019 at the age of 91. The Dev family hails from Jalandhar, Punjab. Mukul’s nephew, Siddhant Dev, is also inclined towards the film industry and is expected to carry forward the family's cinematic legacy.
Tributes Pour In
The news of Mukul’s passing was confirmed by actress Mugdha Godse, who is the partner of Rahul Dev. Close friend and actor Vindu Dara Singh revealed that Mukul had been unwell for over a week and had stopped responding to phone calls. “He was supposed to attend the photo shoot of Son of Sardaar 2, but he began isolating himself. He hadn’t recovered emotionally after his mother’s death and had stopped caring for his health,” said Vindu.
As the news broke, tributes flooded in from the film fraternity. Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who starred with Mukul in Dastak, posted on social media:
"Gone too soon, my brother... your warmth and craft will never be forgotten. May your soul rest in peace."
Vindu Dara Singh wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
"Rest in peace, my brother #MukulDev. You’ll leave the audience in splits in #SonOfSardaar2. This may be your final act, but it will be remembered forever."
