Many users defended Vicky Kaushal

Many defended Vicky Kaushal and his acting on the film, while absolving him of any role in communal tensions. One tweet read, "The outrage over #Chhava is misplaced! Vicky Kaushal's brilliant portrayal of my Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is a tribute to the art! As liberals, we should not make actors scapegoats for their brilliant work. Let's celebrate cinema, not censor it or blame it".

Social media users said this

Another user commented on x, writing, "Really sad to see what happened in Nagpur. Violence and unrest should never be the answer, no matter what the reason is. But blaming Vicky Kaushal for the Nagpur violence is completely unfair and wrong. He is an actor who played a historical figure in Chhava - a film that was approved multiple times before its release. If some of the stories in the film have sparked strong reactions, the discussion should be around historical interpretation, public discourse and governance, and not targeting a single artist."
